Teething baby= sleepy mommy
my Ty is teething so badly, I dont see the tooth, but poor little guy his face is red hes chewing on everything
and hes nursing for comfort pretty much non stop, the past 2 nights ive had maybe 3 hours of sleep each night because im trying to settle him down, or nurse him Aside from baby Tylenol, im not sure what else to try, the other kids as babies took a bottle cold and that made them feel better, but Tylers head pops off and does a 360 at the very sight of a bottle, he well and truely is a boob man. ambesol? is that safe for such a lil guy? hes jsut 5 months i hoping to wake up one morning and see his first pearly white sticking thru. Anbesol makes the gums very tough, and makes it harder for the teeth to push through.
With Robbie, I froze washcloths, and he'd gnaw away at them. Tempra is also a miracle worker. This too, shall pass.

I've never heard of abesol making the gums harder... everyone in my family has used it on every teething baby and it works like a charm!!!
They have baby ambesol, and baby oragel... I would try it! |

Eleni,
Judith is teething too. Baby Oragel works great! and also get a gum brush, it comes with tooth and gum cleanser. I use the brush to massage her gumline. It seems to help. They both can be found in the baby section at walmart. Both will cost about $10 (together of course)..... very well worth the money....... Also might want to get a variety of teething rings. We have 5 or 6 different ones. We keep half in the fridge, and half out. The difference in shapes and textures really helps too....

Anbesol, Ora-Gel - I was always terrified of using any of these numbing agents for fear of numbing the tongue and having the baby choke on it. Those frozen teething rings, a frozen wash cloth, and Tempra were my weapons of choice.

Writing4fun,
I just put the gel (1/4 the size of a pea) on a baby q-tip, and rub it on the gums. I also make sure not to feed her right afterward, but feed her right before.

I might get jumped on...
I might get jumped on for saying this **putting on bullet proof vest** but I used to rub a tiny, tiny bit of whiskey on my son's gums. Worked lots better than oragel or ambesol. I also used the frozen teething rings. I also found that a letting them gnaw on a good sized pickle worked too. If you try that one, have a camera close for the first taste! It'll be priceless!

Kandy _ never heard of Whiskey for teething babies before, but hey, if it worked!
Pickle probably the same idea as any teething ring, or even the frozen wash cloth ... |

LOL a baby's tongue would have to be incredibly long for them to be able to swallow it. Same goes for most adults.
Frozen washcloths do work great. So do frozen bananas! Last edited by Cactus Flower; May 5th, 2005 at 08:07 PM. |

Whiskey or any alcoholic beverage (brandy esp) works very well or oil of clove. I would prob be drummed out of my certfications for even admitting this so you did not hear this rom me. Benzocaine is the main ingredient in oragel and can do more harm than good but if you use it sparingly, I guess it's OK. I would not tho. But do not use alcohol and tylenol at the same time!!!!!
I do pediatric pain research as part of my work and I actually think babies need better pain medication (in general) than they typically recieve. ASk your pediatrician for help and if he says your child is fine without more pain relief, tell him to read the ground breaking pain rsearch being conducted in his own country! (or her!!) |

I used tylenol,
he still woke up but it was onlywhen the Tylenol had stopped working and he was in pain again. I sure hope his tooth comes soon, but for now the tylenol gives me at least 3 hous a stretch of him being happy or even happily sleeping

I forgot to add, I had never heard of alcohol helping either.
I dont drink and neither does my husband, so we dont keep it in the house. Dont think i could justify buying whiskey for the baby LOL so ill stick to Tylenol for the time being Eleni

Glad to hear the tylenol worked! I wondered last nite after I wrote my note about Rescue Remedy. Since it is based in brandy. I admit to experimenting with a sensitive tooth I have (I know, I hate going to the dentist, even tho I carpool with one, lol). I put a few drops f RR on it and it did help - or so I think. It mught be psychological, lol

I hate going to dentists too.
unfortunatly on monday im off to mine to have a root canal done :/ and due to the baby breastfeeding teh dentist is reluctant to prescribe a sedative for my anxiety so i have no idea how im gonna do, dreading it on a good note i took a peek in Tylers mouth while he was opening wide for a spoon of cereal and I can see the tooth under his gums, so its coming its odd i cant feel it but i can see it, and we all know he can feel it. hes in better spirits today i bet a decent nights sleep did him wonders. aside from what most have suggested, we used a very very frozen bagel. Jeffrey didnt want to keep something 'just cold' in his mouth but being very food motivated he always went for the bagel.
give it to them whole and take it away when it thaws a little. it gets dangerous if it gets soft. i started freezing them with a wash cloth attached (get it a touch wet and just freeze it together). we used Tylanol also but usually once in the mornign to break the pain worked well. thats so great he is a boob man (got a t-shirt for Jeffrey that says that)!! -ashley |
