You need to call the local shelter and rescues and places like that and see if they take volunters and what regulations they have and things like that. Some places will not let you volunter unless you are a certain age or health. Find out there hours and go from there. I think that is a wonderful thing to do. Those animals need to be loved. If nothing else maybe you can be incharge of walking them all. I know when I volunteered at a shelter that is what I did and than I helped feed them all. But, if the shelters there are like ours they are always ready for some extra hand! GOOD LUCK!

When I worked there I always took a change of clothes with me and stopped at the gas station and changed before I went home. I had a certain pair of shoes I would wear and than when I would leave there I would put them in a bag and keep them in the trunk until the next day, just to be sure. Wash your hands good you will be okay. Is your dog UTD on all his vacc. I guess you could be able to but I never did and I know people on here that works at the shelters still have pets at home and they are okay!

Rex,I think "Animal Aid"in Burlington is always asking for help.I could be wrong, but I think they shelter mostly cats. They are a wonderful non-profit organization,I've heard a lot of good things about them...you could try there.

If you like you can go to this site Dogs Deserve Better and see if there is an area rep around you. If not and if you want you can start a branch in your area and become an area rep.
We help dogs as much as we can. It's such a great feeling to be able to help a needy animal. Let me know what you think.
