Canadian made clothing?

I hope this is posted in the right section, I have been searching around the net and on the forum for Canadian made dog clothing.

I like to support local and want to purchase Canadian products that I can feature on my future pet blog.
This way I hope I can give a little help to my Canadian friends/businesses.

I have found a few but not many. I am looking for all kinds of dog clothing from fancy to sporty, from collars to booties!
Any help would be appreciated.
Don't worry, I'm not looking to use this forum to spam my future blog either. Just hoping we could all gather some Canadian pet products and support our Canadian peoples!

I have done that multiple times, but you will notice 98% of the search results aren't actually Canadian made products or companies. I have stumbled upon a few through many searches and emailing companies, but not many unfortunately.

Most the high end clothing is either from the US or China.

Will continue my search.........

Have you checked with any of your local pet stores that sell clothing? They would have a list of manufactuers that they deal with. Good luck ....I hope you find some.

Yes I have actually, what I am having trouble finding is the fancier stuff, the couture stuff. Most local clothing is very basic stuff but I have at least found a couple companies.

I love supporting Canadian (and US) companies too! There are some Canadian-based online dog clothing stores, but usually they sell items made in other countries. A few sell items made in Canada, but usually they are more practical items than fancy small dog clothes. A lot of the cutest dog clothes come from Korea and Japan imo. I went through a phase where I bought a lot of cute clothes for my girls but I had to shop mostly from the US. Now I tend to lean on more practical items.

A favourite of mine is Barking Babies:

It's located in BC and I believe the prices you see while you shop already include HST. It's the only Canadian online store I found that carries the Snoozer Lookout Car Seats for Pets--one of my favourite products. I believe that item is made in California. Please always have your dog secured in some way when in the car--during accidents (and you can't predict when you're going to have one!), dogs in your arms will be flung out of them and usually die or be severely injured.

Ontario-based I think? I haven't shopped there in a long time. I believe they handmake their own bows but the clothes are made elsewhere. They carry some older Puppy Angel items that are very hard to find now, but in limited sizes. I don't think their store sees much action anymore since a lot of the same items are still for sale that I saw a few years ago.


As for Canadian-made items, the Ontario-based Chilly Dogs makes their own dog coats:

I haven't shopped from them yet, but will be trying them probably this year. The coats look easy to use and fit but are designed more for function than fashion--still a nice looking coat imo--like a sporty ski jacket for dogs though. I think these would probably be the best every day winter coats paired with some Muttluks since there aren't sleeves/legs to get in the way of the Muttluks "sleeves".

They're Ontario-based and make those Muttluks booties. They also carry Rosedale Valley Road Gang coats which I would think would be Canadian due to the name--that's a road in Toronto, but I believe the woman who designed them lives in Quebec and I think the coats may be manufactured in the US, but I could be wrong--would have to go home and check the tags. I have a bunch of those though. The fleece joggers are nice when it isn't super cold out, I use the 4-legged snowsuits for the really windy January and February snow days, and the four-legged raincoats are nice when it's crazy rainy out. I find the sleeves/legs too long for toy dogs--especially the joggers and raincoats, but they can be rolled up. The snowsuit is a little stiff for them too, but workable... nicer than them feeling the cold on bitter days or getting stuck outside because their legs have turned into chubby snowballs.


Then there was Poochtini, which was Toronto-based and designed their own clothes, but it looks like they didn't make it. Their site is now parked. This is pretty common. They made my favourite four-legged snowsuit for small dogs.

Ontario-based but I haven't shopped from them before. The site apparently is in USD, but Canadian orders are charged CAD. No idea if they're actually made in Canada. If you're really serious, you could always ask the owner.


Oh, one last Canadian company to support is Buddy Belts:

They make those leather harnesses that resemble a bra with the cups cut out. They are handmade in Canada and are great quality. It's my favourite harness. Buddy Belts can be purchased from Barking Babies (above--top link).

She handmakes many of the clothes (typical tiny dog stuff--dresses, PJs, etc.) and also carries some other items that would be made elsewhere, but she separates her handmade stuff into different sections. I've purchased from her a couple times. I think there are a few other online US stores that operate like this (mostly handmade in the US), but I've only shopped from this one.


I think you'll find that most "couture" dog clothes that aren't handmade are manufactured in asian countries.

To find other Canadian stores that stock at least some Canadian items, try clicking on the Store Finder/Locator links on sites for Canadian made products, such as Chilly Dog and Buddy Belts. They list all the stores where you can find their products.

She works from BC and her bows are incredible. She discontinued my favourite design but still made me some when I asked. (She since seems to have added it again--the Scallop R-Stone Pearls bows in pastel and the black combo with hot pink ones... they remind me of confections or couture undergarments. lol) She's very nice to deal with and she packages them well.

She's in Quebec and handmakes bows as well as a few other items like a bed and grooming pillow--great for grooming the head of a long-coated small breed in comfort.
