Little lump on Finn's chin.

A few days ago I noticed what I thought was a scratch on Finn's chin. I was looking at it again yesterday and it appears to be a bump, it's slightly discoloured and the fur on it has diappeared, it's not hard and I can't feel anything under the skin. I think it's bigger than when I first noticed it. It doesn't appear to be causing her any discomfort and she'll let us examine it (within reason).

All sorts of things have been swirling around in my head, I tend to get myself worked up about things like this and expect the worse. I'm making an appointment for tomorrow to have it checked out, I hope it's just an ingrown hair or and infected scratch from wrestling with Angus.

The other thing that makes me concerned is that yesterday morning we found some yellow bile-like vomit in several spots in the livingroom. We have no idea which animal it came from (it happened overnight) so we've been keeping an eye on all 3 of them to watch for any strange behaviour.

I'm wondering now if the vomit is Finn's. She's been eating and drinking and using the litterbox normally.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I'm still making and appointment.

Anybody had a furless lump on their pet?

Cats are prone to chin acne, could that be what it is?

That's exactly what I was thinking. One of my cat (years ago) used to have them. Vet told me to dab some alcohol on the pimple and it went away. He also told me those could be cause by their bowls , that's when I switch to stainless steel bowls.

You two could be right. I was just inspecting it again and there was a hard nib on it. I pulled it with my tweezers and it was like a plug. The bump also appears to be developing little scabs on it.

I was definitely overreacting. I think it might be a superficial skin problem. I'll watch it for a few days and then decide if she needs to see the vet.

Finn has glass bowls, that couldn't be the culprit could it? Glass is as sanitary as stainless steel, no?

I'm off to look up cat acne.

I think the glass bowls should be ok. Like I posted , it "may" be the bowls , it could also be he rubbed his chin where he shouldn't have dab some alcohol on it , 2-3 times a day and you should see a difference within a week.

A cat I had used to get cat acne and it was as you described. The fur would disappear and a scab would form. At first when it used to happen I thought it was a scratch from he and his sister playing too rough. One day it was there and the scab was hanging off. U could see it was like a hard ball of puss. I touched it and the head came off. It was filled with white, hard puss similar to a human pimple.

He used to get them all the time but his sister (and littermate) never once did. I have 5 cats now and not one of them gets them.

And I have never used plastic bowls for them at all so I think some cats are more prone to it and other environmental/internal factors also come in to play.

Cat acne??? Wow....I learn something new on here everyday. I'm going to be incredibly well-prepared for a cat someday thanks to all of you!

It can be hard for cats to clean their chins impeccably and so sometimes food debris remains there for longer than it should, increasing the localized bacteria. Also, even non-plastic bowls, if not cleaned regularly can add to the problem.

A more holistic remedy, if anyone is interested, is to use colloidal silver on a cotton ball and hold it gently on the chin. Colloidal silver is anti-bacterial and less drying than alcohol. Also some aloe vera gel (without sodium benzoate) can help with healing.
