"Too fat" and "too old"??

"My name is Leslie, and I dont' know why I was dumped. I've been sitting in a cage at the vet for a month. I see the kittens and young cats go to new homes, but I still sit here. The people say I'm too fat and old, but they dont' know how much love I have to give! I could show you, if only you will give me a chance. That's all I need!"

We had a hard time taking Leslie's pic, becuase she wouldn't stop rubbing against us, purring like crazy and rolling on her back for pets! Unlike a kitten, this sweet gal only wants love and attention and a home of her own. She is unbelievably affectionate and sweet. She is a very young 8 yrs old, and a diet would do wonders to give her back her girlish figure!

If you can look past her age and weight, you will see the sweet soul inside.

If you can adopt Leslie, please go to the Dorion clinic at 204 Ave St-Charles in Vieux Dorion.

LR,I don't know why I punish myself looking at these homeless cats,it just makes me feel miserable, she's so pretty and I have seen much fatter cats, also 8yrs is far from old........Rocky is 8 and behaves like a kitten at times.
Good Luck to sweet Leslie!!

Chico, I was there trying to get her picture, and she just broke my heart! She is a total sweetheart and love sponge, and sure didn't deserve this.

I know it's distressing, but at least you know that cats I post here are Lucky Rescue cats, and will NEVER end up in a shelter or be dumped again.

Someone "MAY" be coming to see her, so please keep your fingers crossed for this baby!!

Lucky,I hope sooo
I find it really difficult that my vet takes in cats for adoption,it's hard to see them. But at the same time, they all have a very good chance at getting adopted when they are in clear view in the waiting-room,but only a couple at a time, people play with them and cuddle them and many times take one home with them
Like I said before, they've already succesfully adopted out 35 cats....

Aww, I'm sorry about your kitty. You aren't near Montreal, are you?

Yes, Luba her owners dumped her at the vet for some trivial reason.

In Toronto so not far.

That’s so funny… because as I was reading her info, I was thinking to myself if it would be feasible to adopt Leslie while having Zeus…but then I got to thinking about Hobo and I realized I could never “replace” her. And I know I shouldn’t feel as though I’m replacing her… but it just proves to me that I’m still not over Hobo.

Have you tried the local Old Age Homes/ Retirement homes....I know that she is exactly what they look for in a pet. Many of them are now getting cats that can roam many places and are taken care of by the staff and the residents. They look for affectionate and calm kitties, that can be patient with the elderly and you would be amazed at what a little kitty loving can do for someone in a place like that.

God Bless her and good luck!

Oh and as for overweight....pshaw.... my Windy is pleasantly plump as well (takes after her mom and is an emotional eater), and the vet says she is at the top weight she should be allowed, but is in tip top shape....and man can she run! I always say she carries it well...lol...like me!

That's a good suggestion, krdahmer, but Quebec is a little behind the times, and I know of NO senior facility or even senior apartments that will allow animals of any kind.

I've always found this barbaric, as it's it been shown that pets are very beneficial and theraputic for the elderly.

After spending 4 months in a cage at the vet, and finally finding a new and loving home, one who didn't care if she was fat or old, Leslie never got to go and she was euthanized today.

While her new owners eagerly waited for her, she got more and more ill. Julie at the Dorion clinic did everything she could to save this sweet girl, who was cruelly dumped there by an uncaring owner.

R.I.P. Leslie. I hope you know we all loved you.

Poor baby! Poor adopters, too! I was trying to get my sis-in-law to consider her, but she's not ready for a pet just now. I hope the people who originally dumped her got some sort of nasty rash after they left the vet's office.

That is so upsetting I looked at Leslie's pic at least a dozen times in the last week wondering about a friend for my family and my furball. It's been so long since I have had kitties I'm not sure if my Smokey will be happier with a friend, and if that friend should be female or male, young or old?Smokey is due to be neutered next month.

I can't believe how much this is upsetting me....I guess because this poor baby died without even a home of her own after waiting so long.

Not once did her former owner even call to find out about her.

When it coes to some humans,I've lost faith a long time ago, luckily I have many animal-loving friends...my only hope is,that one day there will be pay-back for all the pain and suffering of all the animals we share this earth with.
Lucky,I am truly sorry Leslie had to die and I can understand how it effects you,you see these poor little guys first hand.I was not even aware she was still sick,I thought she had been treated....

Another passing thought

They should have a province wide alert system like they do for sex offenders except it should be named The Animal offenders registry.......a list compiled of all those that have mistreated or abandoned animals and updated daily and sent to all rescues and businesses that adopt out animals. So that these offenders can not easily get another pet that is more suitable to their unreasonable tastes

Yet another dream that will probably never come to fruition
