Awwww....the picture of Horton cuddling his teddy is soooo precious and I also love the one of him cuddling with you.

Glad to hear he is still doing well.

I would also wonder about the vaccinations being given too early. I haven't read the article that Erykah posted but have you asked your vet about this? Do hope you can still somehow put these breeders out of business.

Thank you so much for offering!!!!!! To know if he's inbreed really isn't that important to me (just trying to figure out the cause of the seizures). I doubt the breeders are going to cooperate with anything I want or need anyway.

Ok, going to pick up "Little Face" that's what Judd calls him!

Likely, if they denied AKC paperwork it's because they can't register the litter--the parents are not registered is my guess.

Will they supply the pedigree of the dam and sire? If you can trust what they give you (since if they aren't registered, it won't be verified) the pedigrees or lineages will tell you the degree of inbreeding. If you can get the pedigrees, I can help you calculate the inbreeding coefficient if you really want to know.

I'm so glad he's been seizure free for so long! Hugs and kisses and slobbery snuffles from my Pack for Horton![/QUOTE]

Unhappy Update on Horton

Horton seized at noon today. The vet want to give him the diazepam twice a day now to try and keep him from having seizures.

We continue to look on the brightside, he went 48 hrs with no seizures, he was having them every 6 hrs.

New Update

Well, Horton has been home for 3 hrs now and I've yet to be able to calm him down. He's baying (as if he is in pain) wondering around the room frantic, he won't allow me to pick him up, he has bitten me twice. This is how he acted after a few of his seizures, but never this long, never this dramatic. He has had his diazepam already. I don't know what to do for him, he's like a different puppy. Its breaking my heart.

Oh no

Have you called your vet? I have never had a pet who has had seizures so I can't give you any advice.

Here is some info on diazepam on animals. One side affect is anxiety and aggressiveness.

Adriann,I am soo sorry to hear that, being hyper was often a sign my son would get a seizure, but dogs are probably different.

Thanks for the article!!! He's taken it the last two nights with no problem, just made him "drunk".

I just feel so helpless...nothing I do is helping him.

But didn't the vet just up the dose? Maybe Horton just needs some time to get used to it.

Actually, I think they are pretty similar. I had lunch with one of my best friends today and her daughter used to have seizures. She hasn't had one since she was a baby, but we talked about it most of lunch time.

Adriann,is it too late to reach the vet??
Hopefully Horton will tire out and go to sleep, this must make his little body exhausted, unless there really is something hurting him???

Yes he did, I hope that's it.

On another note, my lawyer now has all the documentation (tests, vet bills, "health guarantee" (yea right)) to investigate Horton's case. We should know exactly what our rights are by the end of the day Monday.

I wonder if something like D.A.P. (Dog Appeasing Pheromones) would help in this situation? You should be able to get some at PetSmart or from the vet. Poor baby, and poor you for going through this with him. I'm pulling for you guys.

Adriann,my son had seizures since he was one,I stopped the meds that made him a zombie and he had no seizures between 4 and 19yrs old.
Then they came back with a vengence,so bad he had brain-surgery when he was 25 and has been ok sincehe lives with his girlfriend in Alberta,a province out west.
I suppose seizures and the reason for them could be similar in people and animals, however,so much harder on a little baby-pup like Horton:sad:

He just finally curled up on the floor and fell asleep. I don't think he was truly in pain because he shut up long enough to eat...and wanted more. I did call the vet and he too thought it was from the seizure or the possible change in meds. He also said that after a seizure he probably is in some discomfort from muscle contractions. One thing is for darn sure, he has quite the appetite!!! I felt his legs, belly, neck to see if he would cry when I touched a certain spot but he didn't.

I don't know if it's harder on him, but it's definitely hard for me to understand whats going on with him. I don't speak hound dog, and he doesn't speak southern english! LOL!

I'm glad that your son is well now!!! What a hard road for your family too!!

Update on Horton

I think I have my baby back! He finally took a little nap and now he seems to be my sweet baby again. And now he's chewing on my $300 dollar boots! Yep! He's a normal puppy!

Oh Adriann27 this whole thread makes me so angry at those horrible people who did this and so inspired by your devotion

Horton is a keeper for sure Hope that this situation resolves itself both medically and legally asap
from our home to yours!

(you did take the $300 booths away from him, eh! )

Sorry to hear about Horton's little setback. Hopefully it was just his body reacting to the increased dosage.

Are you able to contact your vet after hours or on Saturday/Sunday should the need arise?
