Dogs ate composting grass

My dogs got into old, smelly decaying grass we were using as mulch late yesterday evening and ate at least some of this before we could get them out. They both seemed fine this am, but as of this evening did not want to eat, had dark stool, and some vomiting. Any ideas what is going on? Should I take them to a vet tonight?

LAMFAM151,

It can never hurt to take your pet in when you think it is sick...and you are the one who is seeing how sick your dog is.

A general guideline is 24 hours or more for peculiar vomiting and stool problems require a vet visit.

My guess is they have upset stomachs and unusual stools from eating the old grass..it SHOULD pass

But you have to be the judge here...if it doesn't pass with 24 hours the vet visit is in order.
