Airedale Neurological issues???

Hi - I've just returned from the vet with my 8 yr, old airedale. Awaiting more blood work results. He seems to be disoriented, confused and not relating to me. Two weeks prior to this he seemed lethargic and appeared to have lost some weight so took him for a checkup. Bloodwork was done and hypo thyroid was diagnosed and is currently on meds. It doesn't appear to be making a difference. His brother, died a year ago and we went through a similiar experience but his decline was rapid and there was nothing that could be done according to the vet. No masses were detected, but his white cell count was extremely high. The breeder had 11 pups and I can't locate them to find out if any other litter mate went through this, whether its genetic.
Anyone had this experience?
