Ok,so this is the most frequently asked question where I live. I was wondering if maybe someone could give me some information as to what a 'tabby' is. My honest opinion is that Tabby is just a coat type, not a breed. My friend,Alexandra, states otherwise.
If anyone could give little bits of info with proof,I would appreciate the help. Sincerely, ViolinWolf ![]() |

You are right, tabby is the fur colouring.
The breed Main Coon can be a tabby colour

Hi ViolinWolf,
Yup, tabby is a type of coat pattern. There are actually several manifestations of the tabby pattern, from "Ticked" to "Mackerel" to "Classic" and "Spotted", with many variations in colour. Some gorgeous tabby pics here, sported by lots of different breeds: http://www.seregiontica.org/Colors/tabby/tabbies.htm
