I'm sure it's normal...my cat is stressed?

My Grace came home this morning after being missing since May 15th...she lost a bit of weight but seems otherwise ok.

She seems really jumpy to me though, her ears are back which isn't like her and every little noise makes her jump. I'm sure she went through a LOT of stress in the time she was lost and this behaviour is probably normal.

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything I can do that might help her settle and realize she's safe at home with the people that love her. I've given her lots of food (and a few treats) and have just been talking quietly to her since I got home.

This is also a new house to her as well, she was here for a few days before she went missing but we've painted and changed things too so there is a lot for her to adjust to at one time.

Does anyone have any suggestions for my stressed out little kitty?

Yay for getting your kitty back!! It will likely just take some time for her to relax, but if you want to try some calming pheromones, Feliway might help (if your vet doesn't have it, you can order it online). I'm also a big fan of play therapy, say with a wand or fishing-rod style toy, or rolling some balls (tinfoil, wadded up paper, ping-pong) around on the floor. And just sitting quietly with her, talking to her, giving her treats like you're doing will help immensely.

I agree! perfect suggestion SCM! time and patience and a few baby steps! she needs some time to rub up against all the new things and get her scent around the new home! Keeping her calm and quite will help and she will be back to her old self in no time! is she an only kitty?

I think I may be worrying for nothing...I've been so concerned about her for the last 1 1/2 weeks I don't know how to shut it off yet.

Here she is in her happy place...napping on dad's lap

One thing you may want to try if she is super stressed is to have a quiet room where she can go to relax. She has been through a lot since getting lost. A room where all her familiar things are may reassure her that she is indeed in the right place.
I bet she is as glad to be back with her people as her people are to have her back. From looks of that pic I don't think you have much to worry about.
