Travelling with my cat for the first time...
Hi!
So, I'm traveling with Char for the first time, with the exception of a vet visit, and I have a quick question. When he was in the car on the way to (and from) the vet, he was very loud and whiny. I honestly don't mind it, but he seemed really stressed out, and I was wondering if there was something I'm supposed to do before taking him in a car in order to keep him calm? It'd be great if there was a way to keep him relatively quiet, since I'm catching a ride with someone and I had to convince her to let me take him... |

Some cats will always be yowlers in the car, no matter what you do (I have one of those). But there are things you can try to see if you can overcome your cat's anxiety.
When are you travelling? If you have time, see if you can get him to associate car rides with good things, instead of just trips to the vet. Short rides around the block with lots of the most tasty treats you can think of. Do this every day, gradually increasing the distance you travel. Spraying the interior of the car and his carrier with Feliway and/or Rescue Remedy might help calm him a bit. Also see if covering his carrier makes a difference. Otherwise, you might just have to listen to your iPod while on the road.
