My Sphinx Fosters

Hi,

Just uploading some pix of my fosters. They are the much beloved babies of a pediatrician friend who is fighting for her life in an ICU. If she does not make it, they will be become YY's premanent sisters so even if you are non religious, please say a prayer for her. She needs everyone sha can get!!

We used to practice together. She had to give up due to post polio sydrome.

Here are her babies: (They have a room here and YY likes them but so far, I will give them their own room to sleep)

This is Chelsea

I am in the "so cute they are beautiful" category too. But they do grow on you. They are not hairless as some mistakingly think - have tiny pieces of hair. They get cold easily - and I thought YY hated the cold!! These girs have their own wardrobe of tiny sweaters! Very cute!

YY knows they are here but they are in another room with all their stuff - no intros yet! They sniff one one side, she on the other. Their "hidey hole" is their carriers - was worried they would run under the bed and not come out but they each have a carrier but go into a seperate one. If I know they may be here long, I will start them sniffing YY's things and she theirs.

They are stressed somewhat but were since their mommy went into hospital. They have been overgrooming abit bit there is no concern over hairballs at least. <g> Other than that, they are eating and eliminating well but I know they are loneseome! Poor babies!

If anyone has any knowledge about sphinx, let me know! So far, I know to keep them warm, bath them once a week - they need extra grooming care because of no hair - and they have wax buildup in their ear and their paws also need to be cleaned. (These guys are almost as much work as a Persian!).
And they are used to mega attention from their mommy!

Anyway, so far so good.

I just want their mommy to be OK!

OMG! Look at those poor nekkid babies! I think they are adorable, even though they look a lot like E.T.

Did you know this breed originated in Toronto?

Sending good wishes for the recovery of their "mom"!!!

Hey, they are related to my little rat (I mean it affectionately). This is him keeping warm.

This is Max and Chance checking out the supplies.

Thx Lucky!! Yes, I did know the breed originated in TO, (a mutation that became a breed!) There is quite a bit of info on the genetics of ther sphinx and some very interesting genetic research on the breed going on.- My friend was contemplating breeding one of them since she (both actually but this one in particular) - won so many awards. Best cat, best sphinx at various levels across the continent. She always talked about the genetics of it all.

I gotta say, Casey is really cute but the Chelsea looks a bit like Yoda with a sunburn... Are these guys easy to care for or do they need special care? Would they be any less allergenic than a normal cat?

As I said above, they take as much care as a Persian, lol They do not shed but their skin can become oily and they leave oil on things if not given a bath every week. (They are quite used to it tho and fool around in the sink). Also, their little paws and toes need to be cleaned inside wax builds up quickly in their ear - can't recall why offhand.

They also get cold easily and need to wear cute little sweaters. These two have a huge wardrobe tho - they could donate some to a rescue Sphinx group and still make the best dressed Sphinx list. They have more fleece blankets than there are sheep in New Zealand or lobster in the Maritimes.

They are not hypoallergenic contrary to claims made by some of the backyard and other for profit breeders who sell them. They have a tiny bit of hair - it feels like fuzz or a chamois and if you are allergic to dander - which tends to be what most ppl who have allergies are affected by, they have as much of that as a regular kitty.

I gave Casey a quick bath this evening - she managed to jump into her litter box too fast and was covered with stuff that was not too nice - typical cat in every way - they are also very smart kitties - and she actually did look like ET when he went out for Halloween. See attached photo:

CK,they somehow look so very vulnerable,I am sure they miss their mommy, but I believe they could not be in better hands than yours
Being showcats,I assume they might not be altered??Could that cause a problem with Yin-Yin?
I picture this scenario with a kitty covered in cat-litter after her bath, just like Shake&Bake
I hope you'll soon have some good news from your friend

If I saw Chelsea in my neighbourhood I'm not sure that I would immediately identify her as a cat. What an amazing-looking creature.

Good thoughts for your friend, Cyber.

Thx for the good thoughts for my friend. Things are the same at the moment - some scary moments earlier today tho!

Chico - yes, they are unaltered and thus far are in their own room. YY is very curious obviously and I do swithc blankets so they get used to each other. My friend does know that were I to have them forever (BUT I want her to overcome this latest scare!!), I would prob not show them and they would be spayed.

They are very friendly kitties - as is YY - so I think it would work out. I want to do it properly tho, even if that takes awhile. I took YY to work today but left them in the room so they do not feel overwhelmed in a big new home. I wish she was well enough to talk to them on the phone, sigh!

Anyway - keep thinking good thoughts! Thanks!

They are very cute kitties! My thoughts and prayers are with your friend.

I was reading your posts about their care, and they require similar care as the Chinese Crested dogs. They also develop the oil on their skin just like the sphinx.

Ck, my prayers and postive thoughts go out to your friend.

The kitties are incredible. I saw a couple of the Sphinx a cat show last year, they were certainly the rarest felines there-really fascinating. They "do" have a vulnerable look about them somehow... you want to bundle them up in a warm blankie..
Glad they are doing well - gone through alot of upheaval, poor sweeties.
