My dog won't eat anything! Help!

Today we took our 9 year old Rottweiller, Tiva, to the vet. The vet prescribed some antibiotics and told us we need to monitor her closely for the next 3 days and if she does not improve she will need to come back for emergency blood tests and probably surgery for some kind of a uterus infection.

Here's the problem. She hasn't eatin anything beyond a handful of food in the past 3 days. The vet said I need to get her eating something because she needs food for strength and to help the antibiotics.

She has never been a picky eater and will generally happily devour anything offered to her but because she's sick she just won't touch food. We've tried everything from wet dog food to chicken nuggets to sliced ham and she just turns away from it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something irresistible to dogs I could try to feed her? She just really needs to eat. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My Rottie loves cheese, anything with peanut butter smeared on it.
You could try lightly cooked chicken, baby food without salt..really anything at this point that peaks her interest.

Cooked lean ground beef, rice or mashed potatoes mixed with homemade or low-sodium chicken broth......a homemade beef stew made without salt or onions might get her interest as well. A tiny bit of crumbled bacon mixed in with whatever you try could help too - my dogs bounce off the walls as soon as they smell it. A little goes a long way.

Is it pyometra she has? Hope your girl gets eating so she can manage her surgery. You could also call your vet and ask if you can give her Gravol (and ask what dose). If her tummy is upset then she certainly won't want to eat...gravol could help settle it down.

Another thing to try is green tripe ...make sure it is labelled "green" as you do not want the whit tripe that is available at the supermarket.

The green tripe is available frozen at some independent pet food stores. It is also available there in canned form and the Trippet brand is the best imo ....the Merrick Before Grains brand is not 100% green tripe, it is a blend of green and blanched tripe.

The pet stores sell Herrring Oil which you may tempt her with on top of her kibble or dinner! Good Luck!

Same question here ! Is your female spayed ? Did the vet say pyometra ? Because if so , this will be fatal to your dog. If it is pyometra, I don't see why the vet wants to wait for your dog to gain weight , I think surgery should be done asap.
