feedings for a puppy
Hi, I know puppies need to be fed 3 times a day, but I wanted to know until what age this had to be done. I always thought it was about 6 months, but I was talking to a vet the other day (not my vet - so he doesn't know Mako) and he said that between the age of 16 weeks to 20 weeks the pup could get transfered to two meals a day. I don't mind 3 times a day, but since Mako has Megaesophagus, I need to soak his food in very hot water for about an hour before he can get it, which makes three times a day pretty complicated. I try to prepare his food in advance bt that is not always possible. It would be much easier to only have to do this twice a day.
On the other hand maybe larger feedings would not be beneficial for Mako either since his main problem is his throat. Any opinions on this? |

My opinion....
You feed whenever YOU want to feed him. I know people that still feed their dog 3x day, even though the dog is a year old. It is all personal preference. Sometimes 2X day helps with the housetraining, but other than that, keep feeding 3X. Smaller feedings will definately be better for your pup with a health problem. You will know when the time is right for 2 feedings. JMO Heather and 3 Golden Girls |

Sadie was fed 5x a day to four months then 4x a day to 5 months then 3x a day where we are at now she's nearly 7mons old. I'll continue feeding her that way (choice) always gave all my dogs three meals a day.
