How do I stop my dog from peeing in the house?

I have an 8 year old Maltese. Two years ago, my 11 year old Sheltie passed away. Ever since then, the Maltese has been peeing in the house. I have replaced the carpet and padding, replaced the furniture, and now am faced with having to do the same thing again, because it did not stop him from peeing. I took him to the vet to check for medical problems, and there were none. Any suggestions?

I assume he's neutered... if not, neutering often dramatically reduces marking behaviour, and there are health benefits as well

Otherwise, you need to go back to puppyhood and start housebreaking from scratch. Constant supervision, a strict schedule of feeding, water and exercise, and confinement when you can't watch him - hopefully he'll get back on track quickly.
