thyroid problems and hair loss
My golden retriever has a hypo thyroid condition. It ( the condition) is now stable through medication. He has been taking the medication for 6 months and was tested again this month and all is stable according to the Vet. The problem now is that for the last month he has lost an unbelievable amount of fur. It seems to be the soft down coat he is loosing and the coarser fur remains. He is 5 years old and this is the first year this has happened. The Vet says its just a hormone imbalance and that he is healthy and the skin looks fine.
Has anybody else had this problem and would it be wise to get another opinion or am I concerned about nothing? |

Many dogs that have thyroid problems may also have a disease called cushings (look up on the net see if your dog has the symptoms)
However, many meds can cause hair loss. You can add some fatty acids to your dogs diet, it helped mine. Omega 3's are in fish oil capsuls like cod liver oil. My dog was small and I gave him one a day with his meals. Also flax oil, a teaspoon on your dogs food is great as well!
