New budgie question
A friend of mine just got a budgie and the guy at the pet store wasn't too clear on a play mate. Her question is: Do budgies need playmates. She has a male right now. Can she get another male. She is afraid of getting a female. She does not want them breeding .Help please. Thanks

There are two answers to the question of needing a playmate.
If your friend is home most of the time and the budgie can be out of the cage and have LOTS of interaction with people and lots of playtime, then just one is fine. If the budgie will be alone all day, I would definitely get a playmate. Budgies are highly intelligent, curious and playful and will be bored and stressed if left alone all day. If she gets a playmate, it doesn't matter if it's male or female. Budgies are colony breeders, and a pair usually will never breed unless they are in sight or hearing of other budgies, although females may lay eggs even if they're alone. Or they may not. If there are going to be two birds, they need a VERY large cage as they are very active and love to climb and play with toys. |

Budgies are wonderful pets, but just remember that having two birds is twice the mess. I agree with what Lucky Rescue said about if theres no one home all day then a second budgie would be a good idea to keep each other company, however the bird may be harder to tame and probably wont bond as well with the owner since it will have another bird to bond with.
Best of luck to your friend, budgies make wonderful little pets and i think she'll really love him!
