yeah when we went to his original owner's place we were just suppose to give sort of a reserve money then get him on May 1.....but wow!!! was it ever so far and on the way we got lost.....finally the owner....she thought since the mama dog is not feeding them anymore, she figured she'd better send him with us since she knows we come from faaaaaaaaaaar from her....lol...really got lost chico...you know.....when they say 3 houses in the bush....it means......threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee houseeeeessssssssss............hahahahaha.....

anyways, he walks funny like he prances.,.....il give it 2 more weeks before bringing him to vet since its not bothering him....its like normal to him...but not normal to us.....i think its cute and funny....i think maybe he's flat footed??....i dont know...just a wild gues...lol....but i still love him to pieces....

To be honest pupyluv668,I would make an apt for him to get checked by your vet.I wouldn't wait for 2 weeks.Did he have any shots yet?If I'm correct, one should have been given at 4 weeks.

I know you went a long ways to get him,BUT IMHO,the owner should not have given him up yet.And it really doesn't matter that Mom is not feeding,he still needed to be with her and his siblings.

Please don't think I am coming down hard on you...This owner should have known better.

8 weeks isnt only because of mom still nursing, its because of socialisation as well a beleive.

hes a complete beauty I second the opinion to take him to the vet now, if his walk is odd the vet may want to know about it sooner then later.

congrats on your new pup

its okay mona....i dont understand what you mean......we will bring him....just too tired for now from the BIG move from the city...and to think to go back there again for vet....so fat he's okay...his stool is normal...im very attentive to that.....he's a very active dog.....although he prances...lol....and this morning....at 4 am...i got up to prepare my hubby's lunch for work and he was eating his food...he though i was someone else...barked...and run as if he could attack me....i had to give him a firm voice..."stop!"....i'ts me dukie...lol....

well regarding the owner....they never had their dog fixed and run off with the nieghbors dog i guess who's a pitty...lol....so this is their first batch.....

i need to get him to a vet anyways.....need to get him neuter...how old are they ready for this?

He is SOOO cute!

I believe 6 months is the usual age for neutering, that's what my vet suggested for spaying anyway.

My dogs have always been neutered at 6 months.BUT,some vets now will do this at 8 weeks...I would talk to your vet about this. Also,I would suggest having him chipped also.

The puppy should go for his first shots in about 1 week. Vets recommend first vaccines to be administered anywhere from 6-8 weeks depending on the breed. I agree with everyone that 5 weeks is too young. Did you pay a lot for this pup? I would take him to the vet soon to get him checked out. They will check for anything that could be wrong with him. He is very cute and probably really misses his mommy.

Also with no vaccines, do not let him interact with other dogs, children etc. Do not let him down in petstores, or areas other dogs have been. Parvo and other things are out there that could easily hurt or kill your little puppy.

How did you hear about this far away pup? It reminds me of when we got Ozzy. I just had to have a puppy, and we drove and drove to get to the house and it was in the middle of no where.

his owner is a friend of a friend of a friend...lol....well all we got was directions too....at first i called her about 3 weeks ago and that time i wasnt really sure yet coz i was still in that dreadful apartment.....when we finally went home.....the very next day i called her again hoping that there would still be pups left....and lucky me she did have 3 left!!!...i told my hubby we have to go there and reserve one before we ran out....BUT i had to go to sudbury for my doctor's appointment so....i said on the way home then we'll stop by....but my dad-in-law was driving......so....(zip my mouth) no no no....hehehehe....next day i called my step son to drive me there....since i don't know the area and he does....so we went...me, my hubby and his son....well...it said in the instructions pass this road....then...go to this highway....then turn on this road....third house......then you ask each other...is that considered house #1???? it was a fun trip....

Why did you get him at 5 weeks? There is a lot of socialization missing there. Dogs that stay under 8 weeks usually end up overly aggressive or overly fearful of other dogs. It may not show now, but in the future it may.

I would go to the vet right away, just for a check up and then in a week for the shots, if the dog is settling in well. If the dog has diarrhea or is lathargic in a week, I would wait. It may cost more having 2 visits, but if your dog has a puppy virus already, it would be good to know. The people you got the pup from don't seem too knowledgeable...

Good luck, and congrats on getting a pup!!
