Smile My Local Hero

My female Rottweiler was so excited to go in the car, she bolted out the door, and ripped the lead out of my hand. I stumbled down the stairs, trying not to fall. My 3 year old son was in the car, and we were on the way to pick up my 6 year old at school.

I ran down the street after her, but her four legs against my two, it was no match. She was gone.

I jumped in my van, panicking. I zoomed up to the school, breaking several traffic laws... grabbed my son, and took off, praying that she was still alive and safe, and that I'd be able to catch her.

Up and down streets I drove, calling out her name.

"Java!! Java! Come on girl!! Let's go in the car!"

Nothing.

Sobbing now, I keep looking. I glance to the left as I went down one street. I see a man, pumping oil into an outside oiltank at an apartment building. He's holding a dog on a leash. I spin around and pull in the driveway. Jumping out of my car, I run up to him, tears streaming down my face.

'Oh my God, that's my dog!! Thank you so much!!"

He turns around, holding her in one hand and his cell phone in the other.

"Thank God," he said. "I wasn't sure how I was gonna get her up in the truck!"

After many thank you's, I loaded her into the car, and off we went.

I called the company, Discount Fuels in Halifax, NS, and told the man's boss what a great guy he was. His boss was quite impressed as well.

So thank you, Scott!

Great story,I too was a little worried,a lot of bad things can happen to a"BIG Vicious Rottie on the loose" I know from personal experience when my neighbors Rottie ran off,the street was cleared and I found him with some kids taunting him, trying to get a reaction, but he is just a big sucky!! Lucky for the kids!!

I loved the story.

Why is so many people against rotties and pit bulls, saying they are bad breeds. I am glad you guys don't think that. It is all in how they are trained.

Just to add to my little rant,if Boss, the Rottie came running towards me with his little stump wagging and I did not know him,I would probably be terrified he's huge beautiful Rottie and the studded collar does not help

So would I, it is just that most of the rotties and pits I have seen are the sweetest things. Our neighbor has a pit mix, named patches, and he doesn't even bark, EVER, unless his owner's kids are out playing, and he is out with them. Patches sees Cano and me outsied every day. The two of them can get close enough to touch noses, but that is about it. When Cano tries to play, Patches gets scared. It is really cute. I can go right up to Patches and pet him with not reaction from him what so ever. We also have a neighbor behind us that owns a rottie. He just moved in there a few weeks ago, At first I was terrified, because he would charge at the fence everytimeo I would go outside. But it only took me a few days to see that he barked at everything that would move! I haven't met his owner, and petted him yet, but I have seen him play with a boy about the age of 9, and he seems very gentle. I don't know dogs of either breed that have actually attacked anyone. But I do know of smaller dogs that have bitten. And I don't think any breed in particular should be banned. It is not fair to the animals.
