RIP my baby bunny
My 2 1/2 year old Gimli passed away last night. We don't know why or what happened to him. Friday he was fine, Tuesday night he passed away at the clinic with me and my husband. We were thinking that he had a really bad infection (probably pasturella) and went septic +/- brain tumour with all the odd things he was doing near the end.
I miss him so much. I deal with people putting their pets down/dying practically every day but this is the first time it's been personal. I'm going to get my friend to do a scetch of him for us as well. my sweet baby bunny! |

(IMO) I think when you deal with this thing on a daily basis you sort of 'shut off' for a lack of better terms but when it's one of your own and a first, you realize how overwhelmed you become for your loss he was a very sweet looking bunny Gimli

for your loss. I had a bunny years ago that died suddenly, as well. You really don't realize how much space such a little creature can take up in your life until they are gone.

Awwwwwwwwwwww!! I am so very sorry to hear about your bun! I am still not over the death of my Dwarf Netherland bunny three yrs ago - he had several heart attacks but was geriatric and had been ill, to the vet several times trying to save him. I was so unprepared for how traumatizing it would be - thought I was used to dealing with death but this was so hard!! So my heart goes out to you!!
You could always have a necropsy done - what about ileus (which I am sure I have spelled incorrectly?). That is ofetn an undiagnosed aliment in bunnies - did he have trouble eating? My other thought is a pre exsitng cardio pulmonary condition of some kind that affected him - I do hope the wonderful times you had with him will sustain you thru this time. There was a wonderful article in a Hfx newspaper today about how bunnies make such wonderful pets!!

Thank you so much for all the sweet words! It's odd though...he spent most of the time in his kennel but we let him out to run a lot. The house just feels so quiet and empty with out him!
I'm getting my friend to do a sketch and probably put it in a shadow box with his "friend" (a weeble wobble bunny toy that he HAD to have every where). We're unsure what he died of. I declined a post mortem because I didn't feel that it would change things. We're suspecting some sort of infection (ileus, pasteurella, etc), probably went septic. We also think that he possibly had brain tumour because of all the odd things that he was doing just before he died (he became on and off paralysed, tremor episodes, clenching/spazaming, etc). But thank you again, everyone for all the kind words. I really appreciate it! |
