y
my kitten 5 months old had a bout of vomiting and diarrhea[ one day of vomiting]
We went to our vet and he was on flagyl and pepcid for 5 days
he has been on hills i/d for almost a month
when I tried to transition him he got the loose stools back
solid gold wet and dry

I would like to get him on to natures balance duck and pea

any suggestions as to transitioning him now and what other companies make food for allergy kittens

A slow transition is best. Use a small amount of new food - then increase over a period of a several days to a week untill we are on the new food. If the cat was responding well to the pepcid and flagyl, then perhaps ask for a refill while you transition. I will let the other board members recommend the food.

Some good quality canned foods with a novel protein source and simple ingredients are the Innova Evo 95% meat formulas in venison or duck. There's also Nature's Variety Instinct (which has a rabbit flavour if you can find it). By Nature has some good grain-free wet food although none with novel proteins, but these might be an option later on once your kitty's immune system has stabilized. I'd stay away from kibble if you can, it really isn't appropriate for any cat but especially one with allergy issues. Fish flavours are also a common allergen for cats.

What was your little dude eating when he came down with the GI problem?

We no longer have a cat, but have had several. I don't know if the peas in the duck and pea food are visible, have the "pea" taste - whatever - but not one of our 7 cats over the years would touch a pea. If the peas were visible in the food they would be left, cleaning licked off - and the dogs would finish them off. I would do as Dr. Lee suggested - introduce new food slowly. I also keep i/d on hand "just in case" for our Eskimo, but his primary food is Fromms Four Star. I know they make cat foods as well - canned and dry - but not sure what would be best for your cat. We had a Lhasa years ago that was allergic to everything. One Eskie I know was put on Lamb because he was so allergie - turned out Lamb was the worst allergen for him. I agree with poster who asked which food your kitty was eating when allergies developed. Might be trial and error. My Eskie does best on a fish formula but then Eskies often do - and is also good on Duck with Sweet Potato. Pork and Applesauce version, definitely not - Chicken, so so. Lamb makes him hyper.

cupido was trying to transition from hills i/d to katz n flocken solid gold and canned solid gold
which gave him diarrhea
Im trying the natural balance because a lot of people seem to have luck with this formula
they use pea powder and duck
I am gonna take my time 7-14 days

Ya, I'd stay away from Solid Gold. All their cat products contain fish, which could be part of the problem.

The Natural Balance duck and pea canned is okay, but don't bother with the kibble.
