CPR and Hemlich for your dog, cat and bird

Since I just had the scare of my life with Vlad, I found these links that might be useful for all of us in case our little ones ever need some quick emergency help.

I just found this step by step:

How to save a choking cat

Here's another good one. This one has a short video.

Heimlich for your cat

Here's one for dogs. Looks like pretty much the same info.

Heimlich for your dog

This page has some CPR info as well for both dogs, cats and birds!

CPR for your dog, cat and bird.

This page has a PDF you can print with pictures. I copied it so I can email it to whoever wants it.

Thanks AG.

Maybe Marko can make this a sticky, it may be too hard to search for it when somebody is panicked.

Thanks, AG! I printed it out for the dog closet door and I saved a copy on the hard drive!

Hazel, that's a good idea. I'm going to hang one under the stairs and have one upstairs in the closet.

I've still got the look on poor Vlad's face in my head. My sweet pipo.

Oh great! I'm glad you can forward it to some people. The more people that know the better.

pick up the cat by grasping its back legs; turn it upside down and shake vigorously. Slapping the back while shaking may help to dislodge the object.
Am I the only one who laughed at that part?

BTW thanks for the info AG. I've witnessed CPR being done on a cat infront of met. The kitty passed away  but atleast now I know how to do it. The instructions from the first page I was looking at was very accurate.

Kathryn, since you've seen it done, thanks for letting us know the instructions are accurate.

And I didn't laugh at that one part, but I thought what the heck? I did start slapping Vlad's back, but I don't think I'd have thought to dangle him by his legs until he spit the thing out.

Thanks Marko. Hopefully, no one here will ever need this, but it's good to have.

I actually had to give the Heimlich to my dog a few months back. She somehow inhaled a big piece of dog cookie, and started running around gasping. I could tell she was panicking, and then I started panicking too! I just remembered seeing how to do it on humans, so grabbed her underneath her belly & felt for where her ribcage met the soft part, and put my thumbs there and pulled up. After a couple of pulls she got the cookie up! It was super scary but she turned out fine.
