Do dogs get colds?
My dog is snuffing and sneezing but not coughing. He has had the kennel cough vaccine. We just had colds, could he have one too?

The vaccine doesn't protect against all strains of Bordatella unfortunately, nor does it protect against it 100%. It only helps to build an immunity to it. Kennel cough doesn't necessarily mean a dog will cough either. Two of ours sneezed and had runny noses when exposed to Bordatella (they were vaccinated) and a third showed no signs of illness at all.
If your dog has yellow or green nasal secretions, or if his demeanor changes at all over the next few days, please take him to be seen by a vet as secondary infections must be treated by antibiotics. he gets better soon.

Its reverse sneezing
Well, went to the vet ($42) and he said I have a perfectly healthy dog. He said it was reverse sneezing. I had to look it up.
Oh well, at least I know he doesn't have kennel cough. Thanks Michelle |

Oh dear, sorry about the vet bill, but reverse sneezing does catch a lot of people off guard if they've never heard it before. We've got two reverse-sneezers in our pack so we're quite used to it! At least now you know!

The reverse sneeze is so very, very scary the first time it happens. I can't blame you for being alarmed. I was lucky, my vet explained it to me, comforted me and sent me on my way with my healthy dog--no charge. I'm sure the office had a laugh though. My vet always says he would rather someone over-react to a possible health issue than bring a dog in that is so sick he can't help, or one that has suffered for weeks until the owner decides it won't magically get better.
You can find some really good examples of reverse sneezing on YouTube. |
