Turkey Necks

So I finally found turkey necks at the supermarket down the street. They usually don't have them there but today I lucked out. I can't believe how cheap they are....67 cents for 4 large turkey necks
Since this is the first time I'll be giving them to Barkley, I wanted to know if they were completely edible like chicken necks or are these more so just for recreational gnawing? I'm assuming that they're 100% edible but I wanted to double check

Yes, your pups can eat em, but some people say they're a bit boney, so you may want to feed some extra meat with them.

wow how lucky you are! i hope you stocked up

yes they are boney and can be fed as a meal if it's really big, but the next meal should be meaty-meat only, no bones, or you'll get pale rabbit poop to pick up the next day, LOL! turkey necks are a great tooth scrubber and most dogs enjoy the crunching and munching as a toy as well as a snack/meal. i'm so happy for you!

TD, I wanted to stock up at those prices, but I got the last pack
Instead of feeding turkey necks for dinner and then all meat at the next meal, would it be okay to feed a turkey neck for dinner tonight along with a hunk of ground chicken (no bones - meat only) to sort of balance it out?

of course! feed whatever your furkid will eat! i say if the appetite is there, give meat, + bones, + anything else you want. it's part of the appeal of this method of feeding... never the same thing twice and the variety is endless

Agreed! For breakfast today Rosco had a pound of boneless beef chunks, a few peices of beef heart and abunch of chicken necks. Total was around 2lbs. The key is to find out what works for your pet. If you feed somthing and it doesnt agree, cut back abit, or you may have to feed more bone with somthing else.

I find if i do an all tripe meal, rosco has stool that is very black, almost tar like. So I try not to feed it all as a meal. I'll add some chicken or beef to it. After a while you find what works for your pet

Thanks guys I guess because I'm still new to raw I wasn't sure if a meal including bones, like turkey necks, was okay to feed on its own as a meal or if I should be adding more meat to it to up the meat content. I see from your posts that I can either feed meaty bone pieces for a meal and then make the next one all meat or I can feed the meaty bone pieces with extra added meat to balance it out. Either way, it'll work out fine. Thanks again. I'm sorry if my questions are a bit out there. It's funny how feeding raw makes you feel so accountable and vulnerable (well, me anyway ) because it's not like feeding kibble where you can't really make a mistake, just open the bag and measure out the right amount. With raw however, we're really taking charge of our pet's health and that's not a responsibility I take lightly. Thank you all for your patience with me. I promise I won't be a raw dummy forever

a raw dummy? you take that back right now Barkley21! a dummy is someone who never questions anything and takes things for granted. anyone in search of knowledge, education, growth, etc is brilliant, so there I give you a few months and you'll be answering most of the posts here, LOL!

TD, I wanted to mention that I  the idea I got from you about using baby food for veggies/fruits. I think it's brilliant! It's soooo much easier than pureeing it all myself or buying the premade fruit/veggie mix which is very expensive for what you're getting. Although I feed very little fruit and veggies to begin with, I do feed some because Barkley seems to like them and he doesn't appear to have any bad reactions from them. I have started to buy the baby food jars including sweet potato, peas, carrots, squash, blueberry/raspberry, and pears. Even better...they have them in organic versions as well, so I buy those....the furkid is worth it I'd feed him organic meat too if I could, but the price of it would force us to live out on the street

Feeling a bit weird here. For several years, I've been buying packages of raw turkey necks to make my own turkey broth rather than buying commercial canned chicken broth. Wonderful for Turkey Noodle Soup. Sorry, Den-Den and Corky!

glasslass, that's what most people buy turkey necks for but you could always buy an extra one for the dogs now and again
