Neutering My Mini Doxie dog - Answered by Dr. Lee
My fiance and I are arguing about neutering cowboy, I heard from my vet that it is healthy for them to be neutered. What is better for the dog?

Yes, neutering has health benefits, as well as behavioural benefits.
Check out these links and show them to your fiance. http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=911 http://www.hart90.org/GeneralInforma...nineNeuter.htm |

Definitely have your Dachshund neutered. If your fiance is concerned that neutering might turn your pup into a softie - have no fear - neutering did nothing to change the wonderful and very alpha (benevolent, fortunately) of my 2 mini Dachshunds.

Sable Collie,
Great links! Mind if I send my clients to that? Saves me from re-saying all that. Usually it is my male clients that do not want to neuter their dogs and the main reason is that they are putting themselves in their pet's shoes. One thought that I use to help convince these reluctant male parents is: If you are not going to let him breed, and he can smell every female in heat in a two mile radius - is it fair to leave him un-neutered? If he is never going to be able to do anything about his umm... urges; isn't he better not to have to worry about it? When you compare the medical, behavioral, (and I think psychological) benefits to being neutered compared to the risks of anesthesia (minimal) and the disadvantages of neutering (mainly just needing to watch his weight) I think the answer supporting neutering is clear. Good luck

I found those through google, and there were many many more. You could certainly compile some links to give to people, or even ask the people who own the sites if you could print them out and use them as handouts. And if anyone googles "benefits of neutering dogs", you'll get plenty of sites listing all the benefits!

Please nueter him...not just for health, but for helping him not to
bring more puppies into the world. Our shelters are already full enough with animals who are looking for homes. ACO22 |
