Possible Problem with Beneful Dog Food

omg, I have soooo many problems with that-

I fed to my dogs - one of my dogs started getting very listful and breathing rapidly Saturday night. I watched him and tried to make him comfortable.

Its actually amazing how many people just dont get it..... I see it SO much with people around here, makes my blood boil

Not withstanding the crappy nutritional value of this food, and the idiotic actions of this dogs owners (not once mentioned going to the vet BUT had the time to talk to a toxicoligist??), this sounds like a mold problem caused by (1) improper shipping (perhaps the bags got soaked allowing for mold to grow) and or (2) improper home storage (how and where did they store said bag of food) and or (3) a manufacturing issue (was proper QC done).

My son actually feeds his dogs Beneful(JRT and Sheltie)I've given him all kinds of advice about better food,how crappy this is,but to no avail
He thinks I am a bit nuts about animals and never listens to old mom,not as a 15yr old and not now at 44yrs
Hopefully the dogs don't have to pay the price for his ignorance

yeah, alot of people don't understand how foods that are so advertised can be bad.
I finally convinced one of my mom's friends to switch from Ol' Roy..she unfortunetly switched to Beneful and says she sees a big difference in her poodles. I tried telling her to switch to hollistic, but some people don't want to hear it

Last year a co-worker got a dog and upon the advice of her vet started feeding some U/D Medi Cal food. I told her the ingredients were not very good and she was paying way too much money. She ignored me and continued feeding it. Last week she mentioned that her dog isn't eating and wondered why. I suggested that maybe he didn't like the food. Guess what, she ignored me again. Oh well,I tried.

My dad's the same... I gave him the left over wolf king when my doggies couldn't digest it, and he nearly stopped shedding, but then my dad got a coupon for purina... :sad: Not sure if the coupon will lure him back to shedding, but I really, really hope not.

Yeah exactly. My friend has a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, she feeds him Beneful. When he was a puppy she started feeding him Iams and he didn't eat very much at all. SO I recommended a food switch, and gave her some ideas, and places to contact to find out more info, well she switched to Beneful I tried to explain to her, but she didn't want to listen.

HEALTH ALERT! .....

Discontinue use of Beneful until this is resolved!

Multiple Reports We have received multiple reports of dogs becoming
sick or dying after eating Beneful dog food. The first reports were
placed in our new forum and was overlooked by DoggyBling.com staff
until we received direct emails last week and then another today.
After speaking on the phone with the lady who emailed us today, we
feel that there is sufficient cause for alarm. Dog lovers make a lot
of effort to take good care of their dogs and will want to know if
they are feeding them something that could be harmful. Most of the
alerts by email, forum and phone cited Beneful dog food that was
purchased at Wal Mart around Christmas of 2006.

We spoke with Terri Culp at Beneful this morning and were assured that
they are aware of the situation and are researching the problem. We
assured them that this won't go away and we would be alerting our
email base of the problem and posting a news item on our site. We also
told her that DoggyBling.com visitors and dog lovers everywhere would
be evaluating the way the Purina Corporation (Parent to Beneful)
handles the potential crisis.

Symptoms
The symptoms reported have been very similar. The reported symptoms
include some or all of the following: General weakness or
sluggishness, glazed eyes, not interested in food or water, white
gums, lack of control of bodily functions. Some of the callers
reported dogs that have died and others say they had gotten sick but
had recovered. I am inserting the first forum post about a dog that
became sick, but didn't die.

A week be fore Christmas we bought a bag of Beneful dog food at
Wal-Mart, DeFuniak Springs, FL. On 12/23 I noticed a tan mold like
growth on the dog food. Our 14 year old Dalmatian mix had been getting
weaker by the day and by 12/24 she was near death. Glazed eyes,
couldn't stand, eat, drink or control her functions. Her gums were
white. We had to carry her to the yard and hold her up so she could
go. The only thing she would eat was ham and turkey scraps. I spoke
with a microbiologist and she said the mold growing in the dog food
was toxic. It took a week for Sparky to regain her strength. I did
notify the manufacturer of Beneful, they were very sorry and are
sending coupons. Said it was a rare happening.

sick people would have been to the vet right away.i would not feed that to any dog.i've always known it was junk food and tell people that.and they look at me like i'm crazy.and say that it's just as good as the expensive food.

Tell them to compare the ingredient labels side by side. What would they prefer to eat? But, then, some people just never "get it". :sad:

also the problem is that most people don't know "how" to read a petfood ingredient label... they see "meat and bone meal" and "corn" and "soy" and think oh good, it's got meat, and corn is a good veggie cuz we eat it... etc.

some people think it's just good food.one guy at work has his rottie on purnia and says good food dogs been eating it for 10 years no problems at all.and were crazy for spending the money on food.at least i have been on here to know what's a good kibble to feed.thank you all.
