Cat - feeding tube
I would like to hear from people who had a cat on a feeding tube and how long it took your cat to eat. What did you do to encourage them to eat? How long did it take?
My vets said I should try skipping a tube feeding 1x a day for 2 days to see if she'll eat. if she doesn't go back to the tube feeding 100% for a few days and then try again. My cat will meow for food but when i put it in front of her she doesn't want it. She is sick with pancreatitis and beginning of renal failure and just had all her teeth (but 2) removed (we think unneccessarily) so she has a lot going on. The vets think once she eats with her mouth regularly and they can take the feeding tube out that her other problems will stabilize. She has an e-tube. i take the collar off her head when i am home with her but whe she is alone i have to put the collar on her b/c she tries to scratch out the tube. I am worried sick. I have another thread in this forum called "cats teeth removed - won't eat" if you want the history.

When my Rocky does not feel like eating,I feed him with a little spoon, because he needs his pill that's in the food.
It seems as soon as he realizes this is good stuff,he'll eat on his own. Sorry,no experience with a feeding-tube

Any idea if she is associating the food with pain? Perhaps changing her food to a different variety? How about some lightly cook chicken breast?

she will eat no people food. the &*^%$ didn't put dissolving stitches in her mouth and yesterday the new vet removed all the stitches in her mouth. he was appauled at how the sitiches were done, how many there were. they were imbedded in her gum b/c they were tied so tight. she has ARF and pancreatitis both of which cause lethargy and no apetite. they gave cerenia for nausea yesterday.

I highly recommend joining the Feline Assisted Feeding group on Yahoo. Lots of people there have been through similar circumstances and should be able to give you some recommendations. As I've said before, it took my cats 3 months on feeding tubes before they were willing to eat on their own, but this is such an individual thing. What works for one cat may not for another.
Good luck!
