kittens getting along with older cats
Hi,
I am going on a trip soon and am probably going to leave my 13 week old kitten with someone that has 3 older cats. Should i be worried that they will attack her and mistreat her and worst of all traumatize her? I am a first time owner, so tell me if this is a bad idea. Thanks |

Introducing new cats together

I would definitely try and get them together BEFORE you go away. Start by trading scents with both cats. That is to say bring something that smells of cat to each other`s houses. That will accustomize the cats to each other`s smell. I would also try bringing your cat over to their place...in a cage. I would do this a few times and see how the other cats react. The cats need to be supervised. ESPECIALLY at the beginning. Make sure the person who is watching your cat is prepared to give up a room in case your cat needs to be secluded from the other cats. Basically try to get the cats comfortable with your cat before you go away. This will traumatize your cat the least. By the way if at all possible, the BEST solution would be to have someone stay or go to your house to feed your cat while you are away. You going on a trip AND changing your cat`s environment will be far more traumatic than if someone comes to feed your cat. Good luck, Opheila |
