Cat Food Recipes

I finally conducted some research and found some recipes - in many differing places, from friends, the Farmers' Almanac, etc.
Here is my current list. I already give my kitties sardines so I think they will like the first one. However, I will have to get some taurine supplements if I am going to feed them like this.

Kitty Heaven

2 cans sardines packed in oil
2/3 cup cooked rice
2 chicken livers, cooked in water and drained
1/4 cup chopped parsley

1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender and process just until mixture is blended. Store in refrigerator, tightly covered.


Gotta Have Sole

1/2 pound fillet of sole
2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon margarine
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons chopped liver
1/2 teaspoon iodized salt
2/3 cup cooked rice

1. Place sole in a small, greased baking dish. Sprinkle with the parsley. Add enough water to just cover the bottom of the dish. Bake in a preheated 450*F (230*C) oven for 10 minutes. Cool then and shred with a fork.
2. Melt margarine in a small saucepan. Stir in flour and heat until bubbly. Gradually stir in milk and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens. Remove from heat and add cheese, liver, and salt, stirring until cheese has melted.
3. Add the flaked fish and rice to cheese sauce and stir well. Cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Finicky Feline Diet

1 cup chopped cooked chicken
1/2 cup cooked rice
1/2 cup chopped broccoli, cooked until tender
1/4 cup chopped carrot, cooked until tender
Chicken broth

1. Process all ingredients in a food processor or blender with enough chicken broth to hold together. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.


Mackerel Cat Munchies

1/2 cup canned mackerel, drained
1 cup whole-grain bread crumbs
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 large egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon Brewer's yeast, optional

1. In a medium-sized bowl, mash the mackerel with a fork into tiny pieces. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
2. Drop mixture by 1/4 teaspoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet.
3. Bake at 350*F (175*C) for 8 minutes. Cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Vitamin-Rich Feline Meal

2/3 cup cottage cheese
1/4 cup biscuit mix
4 chicken livers, cooked in water, drained and chopped
2 tablespoons corn oil
Pinch iodized salt

1. Mix all ingredients together well.
2. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Tuna Kitty Treats

1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup nonfat powdered milk
1/2 can tuna, in oil or 1/2 cup cooked chicken, chopped into small pieces
1 tablespoon vegetable or cod liver oil
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup water

1. In large bowl, mash the tuna (or chicken). Add the flour and powdered milk, mixing well. Stir in the water, oil and egg, mixing well. Mixture will be sticky.
2. Shape mixture into 1/2-inch sized balls. Place on greased baking sheets. Press balls to flatten.
3. Bake at 350*F (175*C) for 10 minutes. Remove treats from oven; let sit 5 minutes and then turn treats over and bake another 10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely on wire rack. Store in an air tight container in refrigerator.

Kitty Breakfast¹


1 Tbsp. nonfat dry milk
3 medium eggs
3 Tbsp. cottage cheese
2 Tbsp. grated veggies

Mix together the milk powder with a small amount of water; add the eggs and beat well.

Pour into a small non-stick frying pan and cook on medium low until done. Flip over and spread the cottage cheese and veggies over half the top. Fold like an omlet. Cool and cut to bite-sized pieces to serve.
Almost-Spot's Stew¹


1 whole chicken, preferably "free range" or packaged with "no hormones or antibiotics" on the label
2 cups brown rice
6 stalks celery
8 carrots, scrubbed but not peeled
2 or 3 yellow squash
2 or 3 zucchini
1 small broccoli crown
handful of green beans²

Wash chicken, then cover with water in a large stew pot. Cut vegetables into pieces and add to pot. Add rice. Cook until chicken almost falls off the bone and vegetables are tender. Completely debone the chicken. This is extremely important, as cooked chicken bones can splinter and cause serious intestinal damage. Pour the stew into a blender and blend or chop until mixture is coarse (about bite-sized). Freeze in meal-sized plastic bags.

²Garlic for cats is in a "gray zone." Some experts believe it causes Heinz body anemia, as onions do; others consider it beneficial for some conditions. Since I have a policy of "better safe than sorry," I have omitted the garlic from this original recipe.

Chicken Diet

This recipe provides 471 kilocalories, 53.1 grams protein, 27.4 grams fat, and is intended for a healthy cat or growing kitten.Ingredients:

1/2 pound boneless chicken breast (raw weight), cooked
1/2 large egg, hardboiled (split it lengthwise)
1/2 ounce clams, chopped in juice
4 tsp. canola oil
1/8 tsp. salt substitute (potassium chloride)
3 bonemeal tablets (10-grain or equivalent)
1 multiple vitamin-mineral tablet.

Chop the chicken breast and egg. Crush the bonemeal and vitamin tablets finely, then combine all ingredients. Refrigerate, then warm slightly before serving.


Chicken and Rice Diet


1/3 pound boneless chicken breast (raw weight), cooked, then chopped
1 large egg, hardboiled and chopped
1/2 ounce clams, copped in juice
1/3 cup long-grain rice, cooked
4 tsp canola oil
1/8 tsp. salt substitute (potassium chloride)
4 bonemeal tablets, crushed fine (10-grain or equivalent)
1 multiple vitamin-mineral tablet, crushed fine

Combine all ingredients and serve immediately, or refrigerate and warm slightly before serving.
Provides 503 kilocalories, 43.4 grams protein, 28.6 grams fat.

Tuna Diet

4 ounces tuna, canned in water without added salt
1 large egg, hard-boiled and chopped
1 Tbsp. canola oil
2 bonemeal tablets, crushed (10-grain or equivalent)
1 multiple vitamin-mineral tablet

Mix all ingredients well, and serve immediately, or refrigerate. Warm slightly before serving to "take the chill off"

Tuna Munchies (My own name for this)

1 = c. rolled oats
< c. vegetable oil
= c. flour
= c. tuna oil, chicken broth or beef bouillon


Preheat oven to 350:. Mix all ingredients into a dough. Dust hands with
flour and form small, 1/2-inch-thick, round "biscuits". Set on greased
cookie sheet. Bake 30 minutes (or until biscuits are slightly browned).
Cool 30 minutes before serving.

Feline Familia Food (Italian Cat Treats) -apparently great for ALL cats, lol

1/4 cup high-quality dry cat food
2 cups cooked ground beef, finely crumbled
1/4 cup grated carrots
1/2 cup canned grated parmesan cheese
1 large egg
1 tablespoon tomato paste

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. Put the cat food in a food processor or blender and grind to a coarse powder. I use my Magic Bullet.
3. In a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients, mixing thoroughly.
4. Form the dough into marble-sized balls or create a large pancake-like object with the dough, flattening it out to an even ½” thickness.
5. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the bottoms of the treats are golden brown.
6. Remove from the oven, let cool thoroughly. Break apart if necessary and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.


Better than Grass Salad for Cats (from Farmers' Almanac)

* 1 small carrot, peeled and grated
* 1/4 cup peeled and grated zucchini
* 1/2 cup chopped alfalfa sprouts
* 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
* 1/8 cup chicken stock
* 1/4 teaspoon dried or fresh catnip (optional)

COMBINE VEGETABLES in a medium bowl. Add chicken stock and toss. Sprinkle with catnip and serve at room temperature. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days (do not freeze). Makes 1 to 2 cups.
