licking a sore spot

a couple of months ago our cat licked the back of his neck so much that they had to do a biopsy, since the op he had a sock over it to stop him getting at it, we removed it about 2 and a half months ago, yesterday we noticd it was red in the same area, so sock time again, but we dont want to keep it on is there a gel or something we can treat it with that would stop him licking it?
