I make food at home using a base called Essex Cottage Farms. For me it was easier to use this mix as it's already balanced and is pretty quick to make as you just add eggs, meat, oil and then bake.
A book with lots of recipies for a home cooked diet is 'Dr. Pitcairn's complete giude to natural health for dogs and cats'. The meals are a bit heavy on grains for my liking, and may not work if your dog has allergies to corn or wheat, but it is certainly a great guide to figuring out what a homemade diet needs to include, balancing the calcium/phosphorus (sp??) ratio etc. |

a very easy recipe is 15-20% edible bone (all parts of chicken, most parts of turkey, raw fish, pork ribs & neck bones, lamb, goat, etc), 10% organs and the rest meats (beef heart, brisket, ground beef, pork butt, chicken, turkey, goat, lamb, etc) and then some eggs, some cottage cheese, some canned fish, some yogurt, plate leftovers, bread crusts, don't forget the green tripe... whatever you want
to prepare: buy in bulk, freeze in manageable portions, thaw and hand to dog for dinner
