meat type/water intake
So I've noticed that when the dogs get beef, their water intake goes up noticeably, compared to when they have chicken.
Other people I've spoken to have noticed this with any red meat. Has anyone else experienced this? Any theories on why? Protein content? Fat? |

probably because its a heavier meat and that chicken is also 'enhanced' with 'chicken broth' up so some %.

May chicken producers also "water-chill" (soak) their chicken.

Not sure if it would cause it but beef also has different enzymes in it and it breaks down very differently. Higher phosphorus levels too...and that can increase thirst. Bison isn't as "bad" as beef in this regard but I understand people notice it with it too.

was curious so did a check on the phosphorus level. And found this..
Meat // Serving // Phosphorus (mg) Beef // 3 ounces, cooked* // 173 Chicken // 3 ounces, cooked* // 155 Turkey // 3 ounces, cooked* // 173 Fish, halibut // 3 ounces, cooked* // 242 Fish, salmon // 3 ounces, cooked* // 252 *A 3-ounce serving is about the size of a deck of cards. source:http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocente...ls/phosphorus/
