Red and black growth on eye

Hello,

My dog is 15yrs old, part beagle part German shepherd. Yesterday I noticed a growth or something in his right eye, it now covers about half his eye. He seems lethargic and disoriented. I tried to give him some peanut butter and when he tried to lick it with his head looking up he was unable, once I lowered my hand to where he would reach it looking down he was able to lick. He is also taking small sips of water whereas he usually drinks must faster.

I would like to take him to a vet but he is terrified of them. Last time they had to give him a sedative because they were afraid he was going to give himself a heart attack.

I have attached a picture of his eye, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It's hard to tell from the pic, Wellington15, but the pink could be the third eyelid. No idea what else you might be seeing, but if the change has been that rapid, your dog needs to be seen by a vet. There's something very definitely wrong with his eye. If there's an infection and it's left untreated, he could lose the eye.

When you make the appointment (and it should be sooner, not later), explain to the vet how anxious your dog gets. Perhaps he can prescribe an anxiety reducer, like Alprazolam, to calm your dog for the appointment.

Thanks, thought it would be a long shot to get answers via internet but I was hoping I might be able to spare him the stress. Ill let you guys know what the vet says
