Red face Hi I'm posting here because I am new and not familiar...

Hi;

I bought a 3 year old beagle from a rescue kennels. I have rescued a puppy mill dog and had no idea just how wounded these poor dogs where. I had to syring water feed her for the first few days. She has come a far way during our three weeks together, however, she developed seperation anxiety and ii a terrifyed to being leash trained. Well I can go on obviously. I brought her home straight from the kennels so she had no reabilitation. I did not want to see her go back into thee kennels so I adopted her hoping I can fatten her up. She is eating and drinking now. I will look around at some posts. Im hoping I can seek answers in hopes to leash train her so I can introduce her to the parks. She is not an aggressive dog, but I do have to leash train her to keep her safe.

Ratty

Welcome to the board, Rattycat. We'll help if we can with your little darling. So ask away, and we'll do what we can!

Welcome to the forum Rattycat - and yup dig around a bit.
lots of good pet owners and and experts have already answered nearly all of the common questions and issues. That's a great start and of course ask anything you'd like at anytime. Cheers.

Three weeks is a very short time. I think you need to give her more time to adjust to you, your household and her new life before you can expect too much. OUr rescue was four years old, not a puppy mill dog but was kept away from people in a kennel and only taken out for hunting. I'd say it was a good year before she seemed to be comfortable with us, especially with my husband. We believe she had been pretty roughly handled by men before we got her, she was fine with women.

Ask around about training classes and be sure to explain your situation to a potential trainer. Your Vet may be able to help you. Our Vet is how we got into a class. LOL, the class was mostly for me. As a trained gun dog our rescue knew more about leash behaviour than I did.

Welcome you and Maggie. Yes please, photo?
