Puppy training
Afternoon all,
Not sure if this is the correct place but I'm new so forgive me if it's not. We got our new minature jack russell pup last week he's 8 weeks old he bites alot which I understand pups to do,we yelp or No! If he gets too carried away with it but I've noticed he gets quite annoyed if I pick him up to stop him getting somewhere he shouldn't he kinda growls and snaps quite hard what should I do to this behaviour can anyone help ? It's the same if anyone walks across te floor he just hangs on there feet biting if I yelp he doesn't stop I pick him up tell him no put him down he does the same again. I know he's just a puppy but really wouldn't like him to be aggressive when older and would love advice to stop it now. Thanks in advance Michelle |

Congratulations on the new puppy!
You are right to be concerned about this behaviour. Yes he is only a puppy and yes it is normal for them to nip and growl but this is your opportunity to train him to be the best behaved little dog he can be. Good for you for wanting to address this ASAP. Check out the site below for some at home training advice and you may want to enrol him in puppy classes too. Good luck! When I got my dog Marty who was 2 yo he was very mouthy and I was told when Marty tried to bite my hand I should push him away than turn my back on him . My dog got the message fast, I only had to do this about 4 times , but he is an older dog.
I hope we'll be able to see a photo of your new puppy soon. |

I've tried that with ollie too but with him being so small he hangs onto my feet,I say no! And move my feet out the way so he can't get to them.its when he gets annoyed which isn't all the time he growls and moans and snaps which I can tell isn't so much playing this is what I want to stop ASAP.

I downsize the photo by zooming it to 50% and that made it look better and was able to see how adorable your puppy is.

Piper is almost 6 months old and she was exactly like that as a puppy, hanging off your pants, biting and growling, sharp little teeth ripping my hands up. We are doing puppy class but seriously just be consistent in telling the puppy to stop and handing her something appropriate to play with. I think it lasted about a month with Piper but she never does it anymore so there is a light at the end of your tunnel. Hang in there.
