Cause of Siezures!!!
I just wanted to post a note here incase your pet has had seizures. I have been researching this for the last couple years and talked to many vets as I have a female ****zu, 4yrs old that has had many. After carefull tracking and analyzing everthing from food to other possible contribitors to these siezures, my vet who is soo amazing pin pointed that they do happen around the time she goes into heat and that an over flow of hormones could be the trigger. This makes perfect sense considering the timing of all the siezures. She will be getting fixed this spring now that I can't/wont breed her. Hopefully this will help. She is on medication daily right now too which has been great and no negative side effects so far.
I just wanted to share this info as I have read so many threads with people looking for answers as well. Hopefully this will help someone as well. It sure put my mind at ease and helped me recognize the symptoms and know when to watch even more carefully. Thanks |

Did your vet say how common this was in dogs? That's pretty interesting.
And...yet another good reason to spay dogs too! Glad you found the cause, & glad she's getting fixed.

my girl has epileptic fits but only rarely, none for the past year or so, what brings hers on- STRESS. but not teasing stress or noise ect, but stress created when i leave her, if i go away for a few days she will have around 1 fit. be careful, a vet told me years ago that if the fit lasted to long (several mins) the dog can have brain damage thus resulting in personality changes, my girl hasnt but i always keep it in mind. there are meds my girl can take but i dont think it is necessary, her fits dont go for long and i prefer to think of it as her bodies way of coping, if it got worse then i would reconsider. hope this helps someone, just remember to take a dog the the vet the first time they present any of these problems.
