Kitty humping

18+ due to sexual content

hey aslan accused me of kitty porn in the tjt

Anyway,
I was hoping someone could give me insight on this behaviour. This is copy pasted from the tjt (I hoped to not have to make Onnie's umm friskiness totallly public )

Since Onnie and Bunduk have been back from catnap, ive noticed theyre getting along better (anita told me to just let them fight it out and never interfere otherwise ill create problems)...except Onnie now humps Bunduk ...but then now theyll both sleep on my bed next to eachother, which never used to happen. I kinda want to save Bunduk from this humping especially when Im woken up at 4am by Onnie 'doing it' on my bed.........at the same time maybe the secret to their new good relationship is that Onnie humps as he pleases

FYI before bunduk came along Onnie had this white kitty cat (stuffed animal) that he used to drag along the house (ie right infront of us) and do naughty things to ...but then when Bunduk came along he lost all interest in humping....until now:sad:

I kinda wish hed hump the stuffed toy rahter than Bunduk.

so...guys do u think I should just get over the and let Onnie continue this...or ..do u think I can try to reintroduce white kitty? or should I just "say no" and not let Onnie do this at all?

Hazel asked me how bunduk reacts to this..my answer:

well Onnie gets bunduk when hes sleeping /laying down already and at first he just sits there ....but then he may let out a kitty squeel at which point I usually yell and Onnie runs away.

so you have a frisky kitty too huh... well I have 3!!! Both Fagan and Palomine like to get frisky on me! And I catch Buddy doing it to Fagan and Fagan picking on poor Asker, she however fights like the dickens so it usually doesn't last long. If I catch them doing that to each other I tend to make a loud noise or if they've latched on (they bite the other's neck to hold on) I use the spray bottle. As for when they do it on me, it's usually when they are also kneading, so I just leave it be. I asked my vet about all this behaviour, as it sort of shocked the first few times it happened, and she explained that if it's to another cat, it's all about dominance, when they choose me, it's just because they are happy and feeling good not necessarily sexual at all in either instance. Although I can't help but feel a little violated! I imagine you could try re-introducing the white stuffy, but he may be trying to establish the pecking order around the house after being away. I always spray though if there is biting and hissing etc.

While we are on the subject of humping...

My two little foster kittens I have left are the twin boys and the little one keeps humping the big one and pinning him down. I called the shelter and left a message if they could squeeze me in for getting them neutered... but do boy usually hump other boys?? Especially brothers? It's weird.

Humping is , usually , a sign of dominance , nothing sexual

My Bailey is very submissive. He always tries to hump Nelly or Sam when they are busy playing with each others , I guess Bailey takes advantage of the fact they're too busy playing to refuse his humping

So... the little one wants to be dominant over the big one?? I would imagine it the other way around. The big one (Mr Kitten) is showing zero signs of ... maturity.. but the little one (Mr Sniffles) is humping him and becoming frisky all around

Of course , neutering them will slow him down. And in this case , size doesn't matter

Oh and about that... Mr Sniffles fuzznuts are much bigger then Mr Kittens.

They are about 4 months now LOL I'm getting them neutered ASAP but the clinic is all booked up for a few weeks. If worse comes to worse I'll just take them to another s/n place and pay myself if the shelter will help me out in the future with free s/n's for my ferals.

Yeah, my guy likes to hump the air when he is kneading next to me or when he is has his 'mummy and me time'. He never humps the air unless he is with me. I was wondering what it is about me that triggers this, but now that i read this thread it seems that its a compliment to me

All this talk of humping.......... it just makes me............. tired!!

I really wouldn't worry about it. It's a natural thing. As long as no babies can be made I say let them have their hump. If the humpee is annoyed the humper with find out quickly!

I agree with 14+kitties, let them work it out amongst themselves. Rather than a dominance issue, it's probably more of an "exuberance issue". My cat, when he was younger and friskier, would dry-hump his sheepskin bed, but only when he felt super-fine and purry. It's actually not that unusual for cats to do this. If Bunduk loses his tolerance for it, I'm sure he'll let Onnie know!

Oh and getting them fixed doesn't necessarily slow them down... my guys are all fixed long ago, and it's still a daily thing for Fagan. (with all his issues though, I'm just happy he's happy enough to get frisky! )

kitty-humping,all three of my boys do it,but only Rocky tries it on Chico, otherwise it's pillows or just air-humping.
There is nothing wrong, they still have feelings even though they are neutered.
The only time I interfere is if Rocky has Chico by the neck and hurts him, otherwise Chico can take care of it by himself and send Rocky scurrying to safety

Glad to know its not just my guy!!

Thanks for alll the advice guys I guess Ill just let Onnie hump away

He usually does grab the scruff of Bunduk but then Bunduk lets out a yowl and I make Onnie stop.......I think Bunduk can handle it himelf though. I used to think he couldnt hiss as hes never done it at home but when i went to pick him up, he was outside of his cage and doing rounds on all the other cottages, hissing at the newbies "this is my turf" ....so if he's annoyed I guess the least he could do is give him a little hiss rather than have mommy be the big meanie

Oh My Goodness! I didn't know kittens did this. Is it just males that do this? I was going to ask if it stops once they are neutered, but saw the post that no it doesn't stop. EGADS!

I'm thinking about getting 2 kittens but maybe I should get 2 female kittens instead of males?

Wilbur never did this but he was an only cat. And the dog was too big.

Tundra - it's not every male cat that does it. Just some. I don't think it's all that offensive. I have had some dogs do it to me and I find that a little more disconcerting. Don't let it stop you from adopting male or female kitties.

I used to be into breeding and had one stud cat who would hump his older kittens. I think it's more a sexual frustration thing than dominance. When a female came into heat, he lost all interest in the kittens. I also had another male I used for stud for a year, and after he was neutered he would hump other females when they came in heat. That lasted for a few years and then he stopped it. I have a cat now who was neutered before 4 mos. old and he never humps anything. Generally, I found humping wasn't that common a thing over the 15 years I was into breeding, but the exception.

I don't know about kitties humping mine are both female and are fixed, never seen them doing it. But Tucker any dog around he tries to hump big or small, male or female hes not fussy. I had a dog that would try to hump my cat when she went in heat, we never ended up with kitppy's though. My previous dog Travis would hump pillows and blankets

what a naughty thread! lol

Other than having friends over that might give you a raised eyebrow at your kitty humping your other kitty... I dont think its a problem... Maybe its a dominance thing like with dogs... Jackson humps Patrón all the time...
But my kitties have never humped each other... I guess maybe because they were snipped before they ever got the "urge"....

At least its safe sex! You dont have to worry about kittens!
