What age to have a Kitten neutered?

Hello there everyone,

I'll be emigrating to Montreal this year to be with my husband and I'll be finding myself a couple of kittens as I can't be without the company of cats...I'd feel lost.

Anyway, what is the best age to have a male and/or female neutered? Also, what is the average fee over there for this proceedure?

I'd appreciate any advice.

Many thanks

Abby

HI Abby - I'm near Montreal and am with a cat rescue, so when you want a couple of little rascals to join you, I hope you will contact me!

Our adoption fee covers deworm, deflea, general checkup, any vet care needed before adoption, AND spaying and neutering.
ALL proceeds from adoption fees go directly to help other kitties in need.

You want to get kittens spayed or neutered before the female's first heat, and before males start spraying. This can be done at a very young age, but for indoor cats I would say 5 months maximum!

Here in the states, many shelters are spay/neutering as young as 6 weeks old, before adopting. Not sure what the cost is, but surely under $100 USD.
I'm sure LR will be able to fix you up with a couple of Canadian kitties.
Welcome (in advance) to this continent!

Oooooooo that's great!!!! Yeah, I'll definitely come and see you and see if any of your kitties like me....I hope they don't get put off by my accent

I live at home at the moment with my parents and I'm having to say goodbye to the 3 family cats and 2 dogs I've always lived with cats and just the thought of not having them around is too much.

I'll need your advice when the time comes though because I'm used to my kitties roaming in and out freely, I think that where I'll be living in Montreal will be too busy for them to go out so I'd want to make sure they were happy inside....I was even thinking of getting a big old tree branch, cleaning it up and putting it inside the house for them to climb *LOL*

Do you have a link to your contact details??

Thanks for your help

Abby

Downtown Montreal is definitely NOT the place to letting kitties outside!

Montreal has a huge problem with stray and feral cats, and we ask anyone who adopts from us to keep the cats indoors.

Here is my Petfinder site.:

BTW, I LOVE the idea of the tree branch!!
