Canidae concerns

I have seen a change in both of my dogs. Their stools are extremely dark and they are both scratching like mad. A month ago one of them developed a severe case of diarrhea.
Today I found this on another web site.

I'm not surprised to see these complaints. I expected only bad things would come from the Diamond take-over. It was such a great food before...

When we heared of the formula change, we did a gradual switch to Wellness Core. How i read that Wellness is being bought by EaglePack, i hope there is no formula change there... i dont want to change foods every month. I am disappointed eith Canidae's formula change, our guy was doing well on it.

I was a huge Canidae fan, too, Sola was doing well on it. I phased it out after the Diamond news, and switched to EVO and now Innova. Hopefully that will be my last switch for a long time, it's not fun to switch around for us or the dogs...

Is it really so horrid?

Ugh this is my punishment for not being on pets.ca much in the last while... I had no idea about the Canidae change. Ironically, I read this post earlier today, much to my dismay but I wasn't too worried yet, as I had an unopened bag of the old formula on hand that we could use while transitioning to something else (Orijen I hope).
UNTIL....
I open the new "same old bag as always" and it's this yellowish pasty looking stuff... the NEW FORMULA

Why didn't the food store tell me ? They should have let me know i'd need to transition to the new stuff. TERRIBLE!

Now the real problem... I'm leaving on vacation for two weeks tomorrow, no time to transition to anything Whaaaaaaa. I don't think I can just leave Molly with a new food... I don't have enough of the old stuff left to get her through until I return (just enough for about a week)

The question: has any one here fed the new formula and NOT had problems? If the new formula is as horrid as it sounds i'll just have to leave Molly with another brand and pray all goes well.

I did not realize that Canidae had changed their formula. This would probably explain why my dogs didn't do very well on it. My son's newf has always been a 'hard keeper' and after trying different foods we found that he did well on Timberwolf. Then they changed their formula's, and while the dogs were still doing well on the food, I was really irked that they were so ambivalent in that there was no notice of any kind that the formula had been changed and that the ingredient list on the bag did not reflect the actual ingredients as it was the old listing. IMO they lowered the quality of their food and raised the price at the same time. Also, I did not like the fact that they refused to state who manufactured their food (even tho it's fairly common knowledge that Chenengo Valley Foods is their manufacturer) - even after the giant recalls last year, they still stuck to their "it's proprietary information" spiel.

So, I switched to Canidae ALS. From day one my dogs didn't really do all that well on the food. I didn't have problems with runny stools or vomiting, and at first it seemed like they were going to do ok on the food, although my little boy had gas right from the get go. Then as the weather got warmer all the dogs had dirty, smelly ears and this summer my big newfie girl developed hot spots, which she has never had before. My son's newf & his other dog both had runny noses, all of them had eye gunk - and I knew the problems were food related. I just switched to Wellness Core this last month after being on the Canidae for almost 6 months. I am hoping that the health issues I've been seeing will disappear now.

I saw that Canidae had made a deal with Diamond for manufacturing, and I cringed because Diamond had recalls even before the whole thing with the poisoned gluten came about. IMO Diamond has not stepped up their efforts to keep contanimants from getting in the food they process, which places any animal who eats food manufactured by them at risk.

I'm upset by the change, since I had already switched Nova's food three times. She was doing well on it, but the new formula has mainly got me noticing a change in her stool. I'm trying to find something else to switch to, I'm really not happy at this point. I'm going to check out Wellness and a few other brands and see what to try next. *sigh*

Canidae change

OMG I just posted about this. I wasn't sure if they changed or not & my dog is not digesting their food like he use to. Too bad they ruined a good thing!
