HD and Raw

Hi Everyone-

I took my older bully to the vet today to get her x-rays to see the severity of her Hip Dysplasia and it's NOT GOOD.

Very severe..90% out of joint and its also throwing her knees out of whack too. But the vet did say that her weight was excellent and he was also amazed of how well she can walk with how bad her HD is. He said you cant even tell by looking at her that she has it. She's such a happy girl. I like to think its becuase of how well we've maintained with her raw diet, but who knows?....

So now, can anyone recommend anything in particular for her, food wise? I already give her glucosomine on a regular basis. But Im wondering if there is any type of meat/organ/ nutrients that I can give her to help her bones/joints?

The Whole Dog Journal had an article on Arthritis and it recommended salmon oil, glucosamine, condroitin, MSM, chicken feet (have glucosamine in it) and last but not least keeping your pup lean. Having your pup on a raw diet is definitely the way to go.

I must have had a brain fart happening earlier on. It's not chicken feet but cartilage and it doesn't specify from which animal. It states that glucosamine and condrotin sources can be chitin (shellfish shells), green-lipped mussel and cartilage. It also recommends a low-carb, high protein diet with moderate fat. Sorry for the confusion.

Highly recommended is www.dogaware.com
Go to specific diets. She highly recommends holistic practices first, then more traditional modalities. Just my Good Luck

No, you were right on with the chicken feet. Apparently they're good tooth brushes too.

I've also heard that chicken feet are excellent for dogs. I've been trying to find some around here.
