Dry Food vs Canned Food
Was wondering which is more nutritional - dry dog food or canned dog food?
We have an adopted dog from the SPCA, approx. age of 5 years. 15 pounds of spaniel/mix. We now have her on Caesar container food for breakfast and supper (1 container each meal, mixed with some cooked meat); and dry dog food in between - vet's Science Diet, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, and Fromm for snacking. She likes them all. We understand dog food with meat is better and grain-free food also. The water content is questionable in canned food. Is what we are doing okay? |

Congratulations for adopting!
Umm, are you feeding Casear's Select? According to dogfoodanalysis.com that is rated 1 star out of 5 (5 being the best) May I suggest dogaware.com. It has great suggestions in what to look for in a dogfood, and has suggestions in how to feed your dog. Feeding a higher quality canned food and kibble is a good thing. |

Agreed with geisha - those are good informative sites!
I also noticed you said the dogs get wet food for supper....I would personally avoid that, as I have noticed wet food gets stuck in between my dog's teeth. I give him a bit of wet food with his kibble in the a.m. for some variety, but he only gets dry kibble at dinner so that is the last thing he eats for the day and he's not spending the night with wet food stuck on his teeth. I don't know that it actually matters, but that is just my experience and my

I would not feed Caesar. They were one of the brands in the big recall last year.
Science Diet is an overpriced bag of grains. Chicken Soup and Fromms are much better but you can still get better than that. As well as www.dogaware.com also visit www.dogfoodproject.com and click on the links on the left hand side of the page for some excellent information. |

Dry Food vs. Canned Food
Thank you for your valuable opinions. I am seeing that dry food is better than canned food, especially where canned food would stick in teeth. Never thought of that. The Vet gave us the bag of Science Diet and I noticed the grains. I will check out the sites you suggested. Thanks again.
