Recommend Separation of Dog and Cat Discussions

I haven't been a member of Pets.ca for a long time, so I realize this issue may have been dealt with previously/elsewhere....or may simply be part of the "culture" of this board.

Cats are my interest. It drives me to distraction that the only way to determine whether most threads are dealing with dog or cat issues is to go into each....and, often I find I have to wade through a good number of the posts before finding out whether the subject of the post is a dog or cat.

I would certainly prefer to be able to go into an exclusive cat section rather than use up limited time determining what is what here. The current format is probably the reason behind my spending less time here than on other sites where the content is easily recognizable up front.

For someone's consideration/discussion.

I don't mind reading cat or dog threads, it's the people here and their pets welfare that concerns me, I don't care if it's a cat, dog, fish, bird, small mammal or reptile they're talking about.

Same here I think if we separate the two , we separate members as well.

i dont know about anyone else but i HEAVILY rely on the 'Today's Posts' button so i wont see if its in whatever forum anyway. to say though, i dont think you CAN separate the cats and dogs because so many of us have both and it would be terribly hard to decide where to put things relating to both.

This is one of those issues that comes up regularly and of course both sides have merit.

Just curious - what if we started a subforum for cats in the forum called - Pet health - Ask the members * If your pet is vomiting, bleeding, has diarrhea etc. seek vet care.

We'd keep the general forum as is - but at least for health issues they could be separate.

Opinions please...

Thanks!
Marko

I like that idea for the subforum in the Health section. It also would help if people would title their posts more specifically, and indicate animal species. Or even just in the first sentence... you don't have to open the thread to read the first few words, just scroll your mouse over it. Is it possible to have people answer a question or two related to the nature of the post, and have that also show in the thread title? No idea how that works or if it could be done.

Well, I guess that if the suggestion comes up regularly, there are members who would like to see some degree of specialization........

So far I haven't read anything to suggest it would detract from the community discussions here...my own sense is that Marko's suggestion would actually enhance the entire forum.

Okay everyone thanks for the posts thus far.
- I'm closing this thread now and posting another.

We don't want to modify one of the bulletin board's most popular forums based on just a few posts....so please add MANY opinions. Whether you are a new or longtime member, please post your opinion.

In the new post I'm adding a poll and will make this question more prominent.

So for now at least the General forum for cats and dogs will remain unchanged, but we're considering adding a subforum to the Pet health ask the members forum. That subforum would be for cats.

Please vote and post your opinions here:
http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=49661

Thanks so much!
Marko
