The dog food is garbage (sorry to say I know you love her so) and she could use nourishment now. Everything in the dog food is 'dead' there is nothing living in there to help rebuild cell growth.
The university of guelph is a great idea.

The dog food is garbage comment is uncalled for. If you prefer to feed raw or homecooked fine, don't tell people who feed their dogs or cats from a can or a bag that they're feeding their animals garbage. You can think that if you like, but unless you can prove all dog and cat foods are, then use a little more tact. A lot of us who do feed from a can or a bag or both, read the labels and feed the best we can afford.

Lukka'sMa,
I hope poor Lukka starts to feel better soon. I know you've said it isn't hereditary, but I'd let her breeder know about it anyway.

Cindy

I totally agree with you Cindy. This is a thread about Lukka and her mom getting throught a rough patch. This is not the food forum.

Yep, the breeder knows. I have been in constant touch with her ever since I first applied to adopt from her kennel.

I am very sorry you are suffering this. I did note your post re sending pup to Toronto to see a neurologist - I am thinking Dr. Cochrane? But since you are in Guelph, I guess I am wondering why you would not be sent to see one of the excellent neuros at Guelph's Small Animal Clinic. Our Dachshund had to be rushed to Guelph for middle of night surgery because Toronto specialists will not operate without a 24 hour workup whereas Guelph has on-call neuros - which is how we ended up at Guelph (from Toronto) rather than with Dr. Cochrane. Guelph doctors were just wonderful.

I have no problem going to Guelph if our vet tells us we should. Only an hour and a bit from where I live. Just have to wait and see what happens with this course of drugs first.

Absolutely, as long as you and your vets are comfortable with what they're doing stay with it.
Lukka is such a beautiful dog. I really hope this gets under control soon for her.

If you end up going there and Lukka needs to stay overnight, I'm only about 1/2hr away from there. You are more than welcome

Today I have noticed that Lukka's mouth opened wider than it has in the previous two weeks. I really believe we are on the right track and making progress. Still a long way to go as the improvement is slight but we'll take it
She must be feeling all the vibes of well wishes everyone here has been sending her, thanks pet.ca members

Rainbow and Cindy

Can you please point me to legislation that states all ingredients and their sources must be labeled on pet food? There is no such thing and if you are relying on labels you are doing a disservice to your pets. Reading a label that leaves out things is more dangerous then knowing what is in them. Labels are made to be deceiving so consumers feel 'better' and 'think' they are giving their pets nutritious foods. Dog food was never made to be a better alternative to fresh foods, it was made simply for convenience of people and because there was market to make a lot of money.

If my lack of 'tact' as you so put it can save heartbreak and help heal a pet then I'll gladly say it over and over again. If you can afford dog food you can afford to home prepare for your dog there is not much difference in cost. And the benefits of knowing what is in the food, and keeping your pet healthy is more important to me then having a convenient can opener or bag waiting. I'd rather spend time preparing food then waiting at the vet and paying enormous bills.

Logically, you know you agree but for some reason you'd rather not see the 'big picture'. There is no argument here, processed versus fresh.

I'm sorry that you don't seem to understand the roll that good nutrition plays in good health.

Lukka's mom. I hope things continue to improve and that things get sorted out sooner rather then later. I know how hard it is when you are waiting for answers and seeing the suffering.

If you want any suggestions regarding the diet let me know, as I may not see your post if I'm not on regularly just give me a pm I'll be glad to offer any help I can in way of advise.

Good luck if you get to Guelph, I have heard so many good things about them.

Oh, what a great Christmas present for you! Is she still on the full dose of the pred, or are you tapering now?

Keep up the good work, Lukka girl!
