I think the odds are highest and it is most probable that your dog is a husky/malamute, I wouldn't trust the paper work you got from the pet store.
A mix of the two doesn't necessarily mean the offsprings have to be right in the middle size wise. I know two litter mates that are husky/mal/lab and one is short and stocky maybe 60lbs and looks mostly like chubby husky, her brother is very tall over 100lbs with the curly tail and looks very much like a malamute only not quite as puffy and with a bit of yellow in him. I wouldn't bother wasting money on a DNA test, love your dog for who he is. |

wow, this is such an old thread i made!
i havent found out officially what he is, but he sure acts like a malamute - the woo woo and howling at ambulances...hes also filled out a good bit. if i had to guess - id say husky/mal mix - the coloring/face masking seem very husky-like, but he has lots of malamute mannerisms etc. hes a cool dog though, and now that hes not a complete demon-spawn to walk and he actually (sometimes) listens and behaves (sometimes) things have been like 95% good 5% bad which is as good as anyone can hope for with a dog i think. |

He is so beautiful.
His face reminds me of my girl, she is husky cross. Shadow is also beautiful I am so glad you are now able to enjoy your walks with him. I remember the devil he was. It is nice to see you back.

Wow! So handsome all grown up! Glad to hear he's mellowed some since his tumultuous puppy years.

he still has his moments... but they are nostalgic, in a sick/twisted sort of way. luckily he has less energy, so i can ride the wave and not have a loose dog or a huge hole in the lawn. |

He is very handsome!! Love the husky breeds, mine is half with GSD. I don't know if I'd take on a full blooded Husky or Malamute!!!

super strong, super energetic and very strong willed mentally. for a first dog (which he is for me) i think the phrase "trial by fire" applies. at this point though, if i get a second dog when i buy a house this year it should be a piece of cake to deal with a golden, right? |

Don't bet on it! The golden's I've met are all high maintenance and high strung!

Hate to point out the obvious fact that no one has yet to mention... Of course its possible your dog is part wolf! It descended from wolves!

Greetings!
I have been following this thread since last summer as I too have a mystery dog. Rescued in July 2011, I was told that my dog is a "collie/shepherd mix". However, just look at him! Does this look like a collie?!! I figure more than likely this is a husky lab mix or possibly and husky shepherd mix. He looks like the previous dog, doesn't he?!! He was found in an Ohio ditch with a dislocated hip and brought up to a shelter here in Ontario, Canada. We fixed him up and now he's living "la vita loca!" Great dog. Great personality! |

k-9crazy adorable dog you've got there Yes actually I can see why they would think he's got Collie in him, the ears for sure are not typical husky or shep ears, the length of the fur on his back legs especially looks longer than either breed & the fur texture even just from the pic looks Collie-ish. Whatever he is he's lucky to have been rescued & cared for by great people.
