Hey Chico, I just saw this post. I hope the vet calls and tells you exactly what the problem is and how it can be fixed! I know what it's like to have some wishy-washy undiagnosed problem that you can't do anything about!!!

W4R,My cats have never been on dry food exclusively,I just don't believe in feeding them only dry.
Tomorrow I will go out and get some Fancy Feast,I don't know why I spoiled a good thing in the first place,I just wanted them to eat some"better"food.
Never really felt good about feeding them Fancy Feast, but they would eat nothing else, felt lucky when they decided they like the Perfomatrin
Breeze was kind enough to find a place where I might get the "Chicken-Soup-for-catlovers-soul"which is great!
This Forum is a great place, that's why I have 13.000+posts

Breeze, yeah I know,I should just stop trying them on better foods, they have all been healthy so far on FF,except for Rockys Thyroid Problem, but I doubt that is foodrelated

chico when I had my first dog I tried for the life of me to get her on "good food" but things just did not work out.. she was getting sick and then wouldn't eat it.. went from bad to worst so I just dicided to leave her on the food she liked.. things got better health and her happiness..
cause that is the most important thing..

I stopped tring and things just worked out for the better.. she live to be 10 years old what more can I ask for..

Yes,I had 3 cats before these 3 and they lived long happy lives(19,18 and 17 yrs)on crappy food, probably worse than FF,not much was available then.

its wet. i just took a peek at the ingredients and you know, there is a great deal of meat in there, granted its mostly mystery meat but regardless... its meat. the difference between meats (different parts and all that) is only its 'quality'. its all has protein in it. they dont completely rely on wheat gluten for the protein (although it does have a fair bit of it in there). if i were you a perfectly good way to improve on their diet is fresh cooked (or raw!!!!) meats and cooked (prefer raw again!!!) eggs. it wouldnt take much to make up for its quality difference. i think most of the supplements are good, just grain based proteins in there like 'soy protein concentrate' are a little dubious. but otherwise, looks good enough for me!!

Some Fancy Feasts are better than others. Here is a list of the gluten-free ones: http://www.felinediabetes.com/glutenfree.htm

I'd stay away from the 'sliced' or 'grilled' flavours as those tend to be way high in carbohydrates.

But ya, otherwise they're high protein, low carb, and like want4rain said, wet! And she made a good suggestion of augmenting it with higher quality protein in the form of fresh meat.

Again,thanks everyone!
W4R,I have tried eggs,cooked meats,raw meats etc...eggs,an absolute rejection
Meats, they will eat one piece and turn away, but I will try to give it to them as treats,at least they get some.
Thank's for the sites!
Sugarcat, they totally reject anything sliced or grilled, only eat pate type
My cats have always been good water-drinkers,I change it about 10times/day,Rocky even sits by the bowl and waits for me to give him fresh
I always attributed his enormous appetite to his Thyroid problem, but maybe he really has a parasite,we'll see what they say today
Also,as far as him not feeling well,he has no signs of illness,he's his regular quirky, problematic self, except for his poop

Chico, I've been meaning to mention that, after you get the poop-test results, if there's nothing conclusive, slippery elm bark is one of the best anti-diarrheal agents on the planet. It was the only thing out of a whole cocktail of drugs that my IBD kitty was on that finally firmed up his stool. http://www.littlebigcat.com/?action=...em=slipperyelm

How did I miss this yesterday!?

Luba, antibiotics for all and everything (and nothing) seems to be the way vets and human docs go these days. One reason could be that at some point in time people (patients) demanded the new miracle meds; before we started realizing the a/bs also kill off the good erms we need!

Chico, vets ... again are like human docs, they know little about nutrition. Worse with the vets, they make money selling you the brand they happen to have in their store!

Sugar, thank you for that link! I wrote down all the different varieties and label colors on a piece of paper, and guess what Misti is having for breakfast from Monday on

Chico, back to you I have no trouble getting raw anything into Misti be that liver, chicken, steak or egg yolk! It started with the fact that we split our eggs, 2 whole and three whites for the omelets. Well, rather than trowing the yolks out, I'd give them to the dogs and throw away one. Until Misti arrived and stole a yolk from under the noses of the dogs
Since then, she's had her own! Better still, she jumps up on the counter and paws my hand when I break and separate the eggs "hey, me, me!" too cute. When I trim off the tendons, nerves and fats on the chicken breasts, I scrape off the tiny peices of meat that are always stuck to those throw-aways and she's all over them!

Rocky, get a grip on your poop, it's no fun to have the runs

WOW Sugarcatmom, the Slippery Elm Bark seems to be good for a variety of ailments, including my arthritis,if no results from the test I'll try some.
Chico and Vinnie are ok with the Performatrin,no runny poop, but I suppose each cat reacts different
Still,I will go back to FF,hubby will be happy,it's half the price of Performatrin, not that money is any object when it comes to their food, hubby might not agree, but he does not really have a say
Sarah,I never tried raw eggs, just boiled or fried, maybe they'd like an egg-yolk,I'll try it..

That is definitely what I have found to be true here Chico... I went through about 4 different foods trying to switch from the vet stuff. Windy had the runs with 3, Fagan regurgitated 2, 1 only Asker would eat. I finally settled on Performatrin Ultra Lamb... seems to be the only one everyone can eat, and that I can live with the ingredients. They're just like us, some have sensitive tummies, some can eat anything.

Have you heard back from the vets yet?

Sarah,it's Global Pet Foods, they said they order it for 2 customers and will add me to the list, unlike my regular store Ren's,who quit it,because not enough people bought ityou'd think even 2 customers would prompt them to order it,especially since I've spent a LOT of money there over 11yrs..

I introduced Rocky to his beloved FF Beef, patestyle,he ate like it was his last meal, just sucked it up,pill and all, only to throw it all up
I guess I have to do a slow transition
Vinnie and Chico had no problems, but they did not sucked it up,they ate at a normal pace

Poor Rocky he probably thought "finally, mom's got the message, my foooood!" and couldn't get it down fast enough (do we have a glutton-smiley? cat with vaccum-cleaner mouth?)

You probably should give him a little at a time till he figures out that you're actually going to be feeding him decent stuff again

And I'll check that petstore, well probably too far from me  but I'll see if I can locate the food elsewhere, closer ... Hudson Vet Clinic maybe? They're so good out there, I don't mind the drive!

Sarah the"Chicken-Soup-for-catlovers-soul"is not the best on the market, but I like the ingredients and more importantly the cats like it,it is the dry food the cats free-feed on,a little bit here and there.
Their main meals have always been canned!
