Perhaps he shows 'good sportsmanship and courage' on the football field, but his personal life is nothing to win an award for IMO. I find it disgusting that he is being treated as some kind of hero who overcame hardships to get where he is. IMO if he had not been caught, the body count of dogs he has killed would be into staggering numbers by now.

COURAGE !!!!

What a load of horse *****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah he was really really couragous when he pitted poor helpless animals against each other!! And wow the courage it must have taken to take in all the money for illegal betting!!

And, OH what courage, to kill a poor helpless animals whose only fault was to lose a fight, or be to "friendly"

And the courage it took for him to stand up and admitt his guilt, accept his punishment and be honest with the world and his knowledge that he knew dog fighting was wrong, illegal, and disgusting....but oh nooooo, he claims ignorance, and innocence

Sick jerk, KARMA KARMA KARMA.....he'll get his one day, and I can't wait

OK - what's wrong with the following quote:

"He spent hours Monday and Tuesday speaking to kids at a community center and at the Baltimore Ravens Courage House, which houses abused children."

Very strange. Personally - I would NOT invite someone like this to speak with abused children...there is something slightly 'warped' about this...

I don't know guys. Maybe we should give him a chance to prove he's changed. After all, look at all the good work he's done since being released. He's working with the Humane Society. He is going around and talking to people about the evil he did. Don't we all deserve a chance?

NOT on your life!! Where was his "exemplifying commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage" when he had those poor dogs tied on the rape barrel? Where was it when he put his own house dogs in the ring to see what would happen? One thing is clear - money talks.

$H!THEAD, @SSH0LE, JERK WAD, SCUM OF THE EARTH, and
**(&(@*^(&@$(! M !$(&#))@()&$!@#() )@($)&!#)&(@)!@(&@)

words can't truly express how I feel, I think he's a poor excuse of a human, who should be be treated as he treated his dogs, and then some!!!

I don't believe for one second that he is sorry for what he did, only sorry for getting caught.
May a big mean dog bite his pathetic @SS !!!

Wow. Just wow.

And you know the guy is gonna screw up again somehow. Maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt, but people like that rarely change. Most likely he'll just hide the stuff he does better until he gets caught again. How has he been punished other than some jail time (which is just considered a status symbol to many of his friends no doubt - I grew up around those type of people. Going to jail isn't shameful...), and a loss of money that he's already making back? And now he's being openly rewarded by his peers and the sports organization that employs him, so yeah...

Yeah, really. They should invite someone that has been a pillar of the community. Or at least someone that has proven throughout the years to have become a better person.

You don't invite an abuser (animals or not - people that abuse people often do the same to animals - who is to say he hasn't engaged in that type of behavior with people?) who was just convicted not that long ago. What does that say? If you do bad things you can out of it as long as you have enough money and you're popular?

I hate to be cynical but given that the award is based on nominations from ones team mates, I'll bet dollars to doughnuts he paid them handsomely to do so.

I also note that he'll be getting a lovely pay pkg. with a 1.5 million roster bonus ~ just for sitting on the bench. From the National Post: "Vick’s 2010 salary was to be $3.75M, with $1M guaranteed on the fifth day of the league year (today), the same day the Eagles were required pay him a roster bonus of $1.5M." Now, apparently, there is offset language: he hasn't been picked up by the Eagles nor has he been released so, if someone does pick up his option, the 2010 pay then becomes their issue to negotiate.

Would someone please pay me $1.5 k to sit on a bench. Any bench ~ i don't care where... as long as he's on it.

Don't do that to me I thought you were serious at first .

Def'n of courage:

Courage, also known as bravery, fortitude, will, and intrepidity, is the ability to confront fear, pain, risk/danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. "Physical courage" is courage in the face of physical pain, hardship, Death, or threat of death, while "moral courage" is the ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition, shame, scandal, or discouragement. Overall, doing what no one else would do or want to do.
Courage is the mental and moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.

So what has he done that was courageous??????????????

And he thinks he deserves it . He's not courageous, he is an arrogant jacka$$ who did what he needed to do to get back to football

I think many of his teammates were (and probably still are) involved in this disgusting crap. So many of them stood up and said they see nothing wrong with what he did, and that he didn't know any better....that it was a "cultural" thing So anyone who defends his actions, is probably just like him!

Karma Karma Karma to all invovled

I feel for Ed Block's family. It's a wonderful legacy, particularly the Courage Houses which are financially sponsored by the players and teams. And from the (admittedly little) I've read about Mr. Block he seems to have led by example with courage and humanity. This is an insult to his memory and his family's good name.

Thanks for letting us know, mx3. M Vick just doesn't seem to fit with Ed's values as a human.

I'm with Melinda, where's a rusty razor to neuter this loser? He'd be lucky if that's all I'd do to him... sometimes I think people should have the pain/torture/whatever inflicted on them that they have inflicted on others (i.e. those dogs)...

Stuff like this just makes me shake my head. What is the world coming to? :yel l:
