Epilespy question

This has been playing on my mind for a while , although unrelated to my dogs current probs[ i hope ]
I found out recently that my dogs sire suffered with epilespy and passed away aged only 3yrs,,i contacted my breeder who owned the dam of my dog and she said she never knew about this or would have never bred her bitch to the affected stud[ not sure what to beleive about this ] well she said not to worry has both sire and dam have to have epilespy for it too be passed on to the offspring, does anyone know if this is correct or not,[ i tried searching the board for the answer but couldn.t see it anywhere] thanks if anyone might know .

Hi hunnybunny,

I'm no expert but I don't think its likely....epilepsy is often caused by something else. My cat, Peaches, has epilepsy and my vet determined it was probably caused by some sort of head trauma from being abused.

I would assume that if what your breeder is suggesting were true, it would affect humans as well. My dad has had epilepsy for over 20 years but there is no family history of it whatsoever.

Hope that helps!

I have no experience with epilepsy but have read that food that uses rosemary as a preservative will trigger seizures in pets.
