Dog with kidney stones - what to feed
Hello,
I have a friend that has a Bischon Frise/Pug mix who has been diagnosed with kidney stones for the third time. I am sure the cause is the cheap, grain based diet they have been feeding. The vet has recommended Hills S/D as the diet to feed until the problem clears up. I was hoping to get some feed back on other diets that would be suitable for this problem, but have better ingredients then the S/D (Which I am not impressed with at all) There are several ingredients I am concerned about such as: Corn Starch, Egg Product, , Pork Liver, Sucrose, Powdered Cellulose, Soybean Oil, From my research I found that the diet should have greatly reduced levels of magnesium, phosphorus and protein and higher amounts of salt to promote drinking water. Has any one had similar problems, or a "good" food I could recommend? Thanks Graham |

Once the stone problem is cleared up I would switch to a grain free kibble. Orijen is my favourite but there are others such as Innova EVO, Wellness CORE and Nature's Variety.
Maybe you've read this info already but in case not.... http://www.acreaturecomfort.com/cathealth.htm |

Hills can do more for this than Science Diet
I'm facing the same problem possibly with my dog.
What your friend needs is Hill's Prescription Diet, which she'll need to buy from a vet. http://www.hillspet.com/hillspet/pro...45524441760535 http://www.hillspet.com/hillspet/pro...45524441760642 They also make formulas for other conditions, including the closely related bladder conditions. |
