Adriann,
Dr. Lee has just posted an excellent sticky here about Omega 3's, including some recommendations as to brand and dosage.
Best of luck with your adorable little friend! I'm so glad he went to you, not someone who would have put him down after the first couple of seizures.

Scruffy and I are sending prayers and happy thoughts to you and Timmy. I mean Horton (sorry, Canadian Joke..lol).

He would have a little jacket and booties here in Canada. I think the boots to buy are called: "Muttluks"

He is such a doll.

That is the cutest thing I've ever seen! I'll send some pics of that today. I'm going to actually leave the house today and leave him in the crate (have to finish Christmas shopping). I'm nervous about it, but I can't stay with him every second. And he went all weekend with no seizures!! YEA!!!!!!!!

Update on Horton

I am so happy!!! No seizures in 3 nights!! The vet wants to see him today, for a check up, then....Mommy is venturing out to finish Christmas shopping. I'm really nervous about leaving him alone but, I think it's good to do it short periods of time.

It's 21(F) here this morning (which is like an ice age for us) OH, Horton hates the cold...he did his business and was ready to come in!

Lots of puppy kisses from Horton! We will let everyone know what the vet says!

They didn't register because as it was said, the parents propbably were not..Or one parent wasn't.

See with the CKC,it is illegal to sell pups unregistered if both parents are...It's also illegal to sell pups at one price without papers, and another price with papers. If one parent is registered, then pups can't be.

Anyone else ever had such a young animal vaccinated?
All my dogs(present/past) have had their first shots at 6 weeks..I got them from the breeder at 12 weeks..They had all their shots when I got them..The only ones I had to do was at 16 weeks which was the rabies.

Adriann27,can you pm me the byb's site?..I'd like to check it out....

He has been baying non-stop all day. It has progressively gotten worse and the only time he stops is when we pick him up or feed him. (bassets can be very manipulative) Due to his delicate condition, I do admit he has been spoiled ROTTEN. Today we had a little meeting of the minds, I let him bay while Judd and I ignored him...sure enough, five minutes later he stopped and started to play on his own. WHAT A LITTLE HAM!!

Horton sends lots of kisses and ROO -ROO's for everyone!!
He's practicing his baying Adriann, they look so flippin cute too when they are pups. My two start when Iggy (HuskyX) joins in with his two cents worth. Need more pics though

So happy to hear that he has been seizure free for two day, let's hope it continues like this.

Unhappy Update

I just wanted to let everyone now, Horton has taken a very bad turn. We had a very bad day today. Cluster seizures and frantic activity that has the Vet very concerned. After the seizures, Horton can't see. We don't know if this is permenant or an effect from the seizures. He has been sleeping for most of the night because he has had ALOT of Diazepam today.

The Vet is now leaning toward neurologic defects, not only epilepsy. The frantic fits I've been seeing is an indication of that. We are changing him over to Phenobarbitol tonight. We (the Vet and I) are hoping the frantic behavior is due to the diazepam and that by changing the medicine it will help.

Today is the first time I've seen the Vets concerned (all three of the Docs at the clinic are working with him). They are talking about next steps and permanent decisions. I don't think I could be more heartbroken.

OH NO Adriann, I am so very sorry.

Poor Horton. .....I hope it is the effects of the diazepam that is the cause. I'm sending lots of prayers and good wishes to you, Judd and Horton.

No, it was about 10 minutes after we left the vets. When I called to ask what to do (We have never had an episode like this) they told me to bring him in.

He doesn't have to go back tomorrow, unless we have another episode. The whole clinic is torn up over this. Everyone loves this little guy. Its getting harder and harder to be positive.

Is there any tests at all that can be done to isolate the cause of the seizures?

The only other testing is a MRI/Catscan....we talked to the Vet today about that but, it cost about $3000. Then the best we can hope for is brain surgery which has a 50% survival rate. I'm not putting a price tag on little Horton, but, we can afford that, or the brain surgery which would cost much, much more.

Even the Vet said that an MRI would just confirm our fears or put us back at square one.

With that said, we are going to exhaust all other measures, give him a little while on the other meds and wait and see.

Even the Vets got teary eyed talking to me today and seeing him in this "frantic" state....which happens even when he doesn't seize.

His Docs are puzzled as to the cause....we all are. But, we are praying really hard!

On no AdriannI don't know what to say, poor little baby, you and Judd:sad:
This is unfortunately what seizures are,a rollercoaster, ups and downs, until proper meds can be found.
We all know how deeply you feel for this little boy,as do we,from a distance.

the Phenobarbitol will help
Little Horton needs a Christmas Miracle
