Exclamation Intermittent Shaking, Pain and Vomitting

Hi all.

I have a question about my poor little dog "Smudge"

He's a Jack Russell terrier cross.

On occasion, (once every three or four months), all of a sudden he launches into what seems to be severe pain. He is only 2 years old. He will whine and cry and almost screech in pain, his back legs shake, then he throws up repeatedly. He then lays about after the pain seems to subside, and within a little while seems like all is fine. Its becoming very nerve racking. He is very responsive, eats relatively well (when he chooses too...he's a finicky fella) We have tried every type of brand name dog food known to man or beast. He drinks well, and is over all a very active and happy dog. He will have one episode of this, and then is fine for months. Can anyone give me any insight as to what may be going on? We have contacted a no-kill shelter in our area to request help for him as we have fallen on some hard times and need to give him the best opportunity to thrive. We are going to surrender him to them and they will screen a family who can properly care for him, but in the mean-time, I'd like to be able to give them some insight as well as to what may be occurring.

thanks for any help or info you can offer.

Brian
